I think the Sainsburys Magazine is a good read, plus its normally packed full of vouchers.
My mum always gets this and then passes it to me so it suits a wide range of age groups too!
Hope your mum feels better soon xGC 2011

Hi, My Mum reads Peoples Friend. That has stories in, but nice stories, if I know my Mum, they are usually romances between Nurses and Doctors0

I don't know how old your mum is, but there's a magazine called Yours, which is marketed at over 50's. It's quite contemporary, just not aimed at the "mums with young families" market.

I used to get it for my mum some years ago when she was in similar situation. There's no horrid nasty sordid stuff in it!
Do you use freecycle? Try a "Wanted" locally post for free mags.
I occasionally advertise a bundle on there and they always get taken.
Also I used to pick up stores free magazines/catalogues wherever I went, like the health food shop, Waterstones, Superdrug. Sometimes they have an interesting interview or article amongst the adverts. When you're not well sometimes something to flick through and distract for a few minutes at a time is just enough.0 -
Thanks so much for all the replies, you've given me lots of great suggestions. I'm off to the shops shortly and then around to visit mum so I've mad a list of the titles!0

I've seen this craft magazine on several blogs and would like to get a copy (even though I don't speak French!) The only place I can see online to buy a copy is this site https://www.newsstand.co.uk/
(I also saw they had Martha Stewart's Living -too much temptation!) Has anyone used this site and if so is it OK? Also if anyone has tried the 'idees' magazine, is it worth getting?
Thanks!0 -
Hi Rosy, never tried the magazine but newsstand.co.uk are brilliant - I buy from them all the time and every time the magazine has arrived the next day
And yes, they do have Marth Stewart Living - eek!

I used to buy Marie Claire Idees every time I was in Paris (which used to be about twice a year). I always bought it, and afterwards I always thought, well, that was a waste of money. There was usually only one or possibly two things I wanted to make or do - the rest LOOKED pretty but were not really useable ideas.
Of course, I last bought it years ago so it might have improved out of all recognition!0 -
Thank you, both of you! That's exactly what I wanted to know - think I'll give the idees mag a miss (still thinking about the Martha Stewart though!)0
