I think Tesco's should really honour the refunds as its the policy they have, what happens after that is anyones guess.
They won't want some sort of scandal in the press over it all as it will result in the r&r policy being more widely known and they seem to like to have it and say how good they are to customers, but try to get out of it a lot when they make a big mistake.
Sure some people are taking advantage of the policy, but there are a lot of people that are just aware of the policy and always scan there receipts after they do the shopping and look to see if they have been overcharged0 -

I always automatically check my receipt, whether i'm in Tesco or not..used to shop at a local sainsburys and would always get overcharged, but not notice until i'd got home! after that I just got into the habit of checking my receipt0 -

Two thousand people wanting X-Box's free? Time and time again people have speculated on this board over Tesco head office wising up to what people are doing. But does anyone else feel that this has/will be one hell of a wake up call. Think of the chain of events...
I'd be interested to know how many consoles Tesco sell in a week. Then compare this to how many consoles were sold between Thursday and now. And then all of a sudden 2000 people want free consoles. I'd also say that by now SOMEONE at head office will have become aware of this thread. 2+2=5? Even Tesco will realise all is not normal here...
And then people are talking about going public, newspapers, watchdog, getting martin on the case? I'm sure in those circumstances it wouldn't take much for "We regret to announce we are discountinuing the policy due to increasing abuse. We would like to assure our customers that in the event of mispricing we will still honour the cheaper price... etc..." And to be honest would the average Tesco shopper give a damn?
I'm not trying to be a doom-monger, and not trying to claim Tesco will pull the policy. But it is food for thought, will they really give away 2000 X-Box's? Someone has already mentioned "The Goose that laid the Golden Eggs"
I can't help but agree...look lets be rational...I have already stated that I work for Tesco (and by the way I have my fair share of greivences the organisation ) but to suggest that the company is particularly evil or out to con people is a major fallicy . Most C**k ups are as a result of human error (either someone in the FMC dept or the looney who approved the POS ) and as long as the company has a R&R policy then take advantage . I read these posts as avidly as most (don't usually go checking my local stores as I am obviously too busy getting thing right for our customers ). BUT I am afraid that venting your spleen against particular individuals or indeed the company is more than likely to lead to the end of R&R as we know it.
Mr W******e who orignally started making a living from R&R ( several years ago well reported in national press ) has resulted in heavy resrtrictions on the R&R as well as several supposed ejections I have read here...Don't kill that goose....It may taste nice but no more golden eggs.
(is that a mixed metaphore?)

When Igo shopping in Tesco I always write down the cost of items that go into my trolley just so I know what I should be charged
I seem to be the only one in the store doing this, do other shoppers just hope they can remeber all the prices?Only time will tell if I am right or they are wrong0 -

but she did not mark my reciept...... so do i go back tomorrow for another r & r..:D
Hi cooltrikerchic. I think that the above is called fraud. And mcdonag, even going for the refund is borderline as Ok you paid for it but, you've already had the refund in R+R. Correct me if i'm wrong.0 -
It isnt the policy, its the way its implemented.. that causes so many problems.
My own personal experience has left a bad taste in my mouth with 2 Managers but not because I blatantly expected to get something for nothing ( I never) but because of the appaulling reaction by Managers when I did get over charged and genuinely wanted to use the R&R policy. why do they take it so personally?? its not their money or policy its the companys.
I suffered a barrage of abuse about my family been scammers (1st time i've ever walked into this store in my life by the way!) and going to warn other stores in our area about me. Totally unjustified, utterly unprofessional, and down right rude.
Tesco Head Office have told me that the policy is there for overcharges on everything from a 29p Mars bar to a £1000 plasma tv and that no member of staff has any right to make a customer feel threatened or abused for asking for this policy.
Perhaps they should tell their Managers the same!!

I always make sure I pay attention to the exact prices of expensive items (like ps2's!) and bogof type offers, but have been overcharged quite a few times on silly little things and noticed, but haven't bothered to go back to CS as it often takes a long time to get a refund and sometimes they have a very bad attitude towards you.0

If you want to exploit a mistake, go for it, I wouldve if I couldve been bothered, but if it doesnt work youre not entitled a full refund and the item, its up to tesco. You are entitled to a refund of the overcharge.
If anything you will just increase the chance of them changing the policy.
Have you read their policy.0 -

Actually, you've almost hit it on the head. The reason why management take it so personally, and become so awkard when asked to implement R&R with high value goods especially it seems, is because, I believe every R&R is recorded as a "Loss" against that store.
This loss is recorded electronically, which in turn is fed back to Tesco HQ. Big losses then hit the store "performance", and this reflects badly on ultimately the Store Manager, and management below them. This in turn may mean they miss out on that annual bonus, or extra pay rise?. Who knows.
But you are quite right. The policy exists in Tesco stone, everything is above board, so why the big deal, why the need to go to the extreme measures of physically banning people from your store?
I believe what I have explained above, is the sole reason and motivation for the reaction of local management, and the extreme action that is taken as a result to stop people.0 -
