I can sympathise with the OP, I was promised that if I renewed/took out a 24 month contract that my phone would be under warranty the whole time. Foolishly (as I now realise) I took the sales person at their word. When I phoned up a few weeks ago to say that I was having problems with my handset I was told that there was no written record of a 24 month warranty, and that all phones are 12 month warranty only.
I also tried to get the original phone call pulled up, but like you, this doesn't seem to be possible, even though it was their suggestion that I did so!
I am still trying to decide what to do about this, as my contract doesn't expire til Jan 2011. Despite having been with Vodafone for more years than I care to remember I will be leaving at the earliest opportunity, even if I have to wait til next January.

More lies to get you to sign up.
I will be giving them my 30 days notice as soon as i can.
Until then i am stuck with them and their lies
    will never use Vodafone again
cant wait till one of the sales team phones to ask me to renew my contract
    WATCH OUT!!!!!!

You might find the following interesting. These have been law since September last year and anyone contemplating taking out a Vodafone contract should be aware of this Vodafone "contract" with you

    http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/SimpleGetFileServlet?dDocName=VF014058&revisionSelectionMethod=latestReleased&inline=0

However, General Condition 23 of OFCOM's "rules" dated Sept 2009 has lots of goodies that cover returns/cancellations, your rights to have everything in writing etc.

If you order a mobile without reading GC23 first, you are not doing yourself any favours. Oh, and you must always read the t&c preferably before committing to a contract.

But I have come to the conclusion that 30-day sim only contracts are always the safest bet.

Ann S - where did you get the impression that handsets are warranted for the length of the contract? Unless you take out insurance, I believe that you are incorrect.

You have the Vodafone warranty on the handset for the duration of the contract, not the manufacturers warranty. If there is a problem with the handset, they will arrange for a free repair.

The insurance is for accidental damage which includes water damage where the handset will be replaced.

Certain restrictions, although they do claim that the phone is under warranty for the period of the contract.

Interesting point there, though. They have a rolling contract like all telecomms with an "initial minimum period". However, they claim that until you cancel, you are still under contract. So, theoretically, you can have an ongoing contract that is 5 years old and if your phone just gives up the ghost without being damaged, they would have to repair it???

    From their web site

    Your mobile phone warranty
Your mobile phone is covered by the manufacturer's warranty for 12 months, and you can take your mobile phone to your nearest repair centre with your proof of purchase to be fixed. Please note that warranty periods for accessories and batteries vary. For full details, please refer to warranty information packaged with your goods.

    What isn’t covered:
It’s really important for us to stress that sometimes, your phone may not be covered by your manufacturer’s warranty, and in these circumstances we’re not always able to repair your phone. Below are two very specific examples of what won’t be covered:

    Liquid / Moisture Damage
Moisture can corrode internal parts, but sometimes the source of the damage isn’t as obvious as rain or dropping your phone in water. Steam from the kettle, bath or shower, or changes in climate are all common causes to be aware of. Not all damage of this kind is visible and can only be spotted when we inspect the phone for repair.

    Physical / Accidental Damage
If your phone has been physically damaged, even accidentally, it’s not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. In this case, we won’t be able to repair your phone.

What if there’s no fault found:
It’s not always possible to fix an intermittent fault, so give as much detail as possible in order to avoid your phone having to be returned un-repaired.

If you have insurance on the handset and you have liquid damage, it is covered under the insurance.

    The insurance replaces the handset.

My question was about the bit underlined not about insurance.

I never take out insurance on a phone as most is covered by my hoesehold insurance but thats a different matter.

Try this, but remember your contract has only "an initial period" of, say, 18 months and carries on till you cancel it or upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!
