    Woohoo! yes :j

We did it in the morning and then spent the rest of the day grinning and still not believing that we had actually done it :D

It is actually starting to sink in properly now though, i shall be keeping a close eye on the bank balance to see what day the cheque actually clears on and then i shall wait for the postie

The redemption letter that the lender sent out refers to releasing the deeds so it seems that despite me going around in circles with this our lender does actually have them. If i don`t receive them in a month or so then i shall write to them.

I`ve just been thinking about what we`ve actually managed to do regarding paying off various loans, finance and just debt in general and i`m very surprised. We have had lots of worry and struggled quite a bit at times.

All this has made us even more determined to find ourselves a bit of security and each time something went wrong and we came out of the other side we pushed even harder and have managed to achieve what should really have been impossible.

Quite a while ago when we first moved home we had overdrafts, 2 car loans and moved to a much bigger mortgage (3 times the last one) but through all of our ups and downs we have got rid of all the debt completely barring the CC bill which is now paid off every month so that does not really count IMHO, the overdraft is no longer used but is still available as a safety net but is much smaller than previously.

I have learnt absolutely tons from this site having found you all whilst searching for advice when DH lost his first job of many years some time ago, many lightbulbs flickered on as i spent many nights reading and learning. Our outgoings halved as we followed advice and changed how things were done.

I started the grocery challenge and did quite a lot of reading on the greenfingered board and learnt to grow a lot of our food, all this enabled us to keep the house as we saved so much money - the oldstyle board is fantastic and has kept us afloat in more ways than one.

SOOO what i really want to say is a huge thanks to everyone who posts on these boards and to Martin for creating such a wonderful community.
We really could not have done this without you!

Plans now are to get a small amount of savings behind us and then start doing some of the more pressing things that need doing around here, quite a few of those but we can take our time over it all. The house will get finished and how we want it eventually but the huge difference is that now its OUR house and not the building societies :j:j:j:j:j

Sorry for the ramble peeps :o

    Thankyou all so much :A

I am so happy for you sunnyday :j:j:j:j:D

What a lovely post just above (don't know how to quote I'm useless!), I agree this really is a life saving site, there is so much to learn especially on the oldstyle boards, how to economise does not seem to get passed on through families as much any more, which is a shame. All those thousands of choices you made and things you did with this in mind have paid off now.

I hope you really enjoy being mf, and still hang around on here to keep an eye on us. Oh and please tell us you are going to treat yourself to something extravagant to celebrate!

Just found your thread, only to see you're all done! Congratulations, what a great feeling :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Sunny, I'm doing virtual cartwheels on your behalf!! cartwheel.gif?t=1300800312cartwheel.gif?t=1300800312

A huge WELL DONE, was that an early Birthday pressie to yourself as you said that's coming up next month?? You & DH must be so relieved ~ a mortgage feels like a dead weight around your neck so good to get rid!! :rotfl:

I'm still living in hope that we can concentrate on becoming MF but hubby came home from work yesterday & said there had been a budget meeting & more redundancies are looming :( Same thing happened last year but luckily his department managed to juggle things around, some staff reducing their hours etc. Hubby is confident his job is safe, but I'm more of a pessimist so I'll be doing the worrying :o

Anyway, have made a couple more OPs since the last time I posted but I'm confused again :o I transferred £170 ('free' council tax & water payments as only pay 10 out of 12 months) online over a week ago to the mortgage account but it's only reduced the balance by £80?? I'm worried that I'm not doing things right so will have to either phone or go into my local branch to query :( Won't make any more OPs for the time being anyway, I want to know more about hubby's job first. Bummer. I was really getting into this OP malarkey as well!! :rotfl:

Btw, I'm off SW for the time being ~ too much 'stuff' going on & I was fed up making separate meals for everyone :( I know with EE that's not supposed to be an issue, but my hubby & kids are fussy beggars & were turning their noses up at my SW-friendly offerings. Also I think I'm too [STRIKE]lazy[/STRIKE] disorganised with mealplans/batch cooking etc. which didn't help. Ah well, I will get back into 'being [STRIKE]boring[/STRIKE] good'. Good luck with your efforts, you're a lot more organised than me so you should do well!! :rotfl:

Sorry, waffled on a bit too much there, but just to say again CONGRATULATIONS ON BECOMING MF :j

    Aw thanks peeps :o

    you`re making me blush :A

The cheque hasn`t cleared yet but it shouldn`t be long now :D

Yesterday we were without water as the workmen outside in the street did something wrong, from tomorrow we will be without gas as the gas mains are being renewed in our area. We won`t be able to get it reinstated until one of us will be home to let the workmen in to check that everything is safe - crikey that could be late next week

We will be having big holes dug in the back garden too so i hope that all my newly sown plants will be ok!

    Sweet
    - I think that you need to speak to your lender to see how they deal with the OP`s, ours had to be over £500 to be classed as a capital payment so i saved until i had at least that amount before overpaying lumps. Monthly we increased the DD so that we could overpay that way too but it made more of a difference with the larger payments as the interest was recalculated immediately.

We were also restricted in the amount that we could overpay for the first 5 years too so had to make sure that we didn`t go over this amount and incurr any penalties. I have read that some lenders charge an admin fee for OP`s as well so have a look at your original paperwork too, that way you will be able to work out which way will save you the most.

I do remember that in the early years it didn`t make much of a dent so i had to check eveything with our lender to make sure that i was getting the most benefit from what i was doing.

Hope that Hubs job is safe - and everything works out well for you. I`m off to work in a mo - just realised the time
