Sunnydays tiny steps

Hi everyone

room for one more?

Today i`ve been sorting through some old papers and have finally decided to officially take the plunge and post.

The last couple of years i`ve been having a sneaky peek off and on and its spurred me on to make small overpayments on my mortgage here and there as and when circumstances have allowed.

I`ve probably jinxed myself by finally posting but hey i`ve got to have someone to share it with :D

Tomorrow i`m going to ring up and find out exactly how much i owe and work towards paying the mortgage off as quickly as i can.

I`m rubbish with figures but i would like to think that i can pay the debt off completely by April 2015. Not sure how realistic that actually is but if there are no more nasty surprises then that is my date to work to.

I feel so much better for actually writing this down and sharing, i feel so excited that i could burst!

When i`ve made the calls i shall be back and fingers crossed everything will work out.

Thanks for reading.

    Aw thanks :D

LOL i do know what you mean when you say that its not exciting to OH :D

My DH is exactly the same. Its lovely knowing that there are like minded people to share it with otherwise i`d have no motivation whatsoever.

I wish that everywhere was open now so that i could get some info. It will be murder tomorrow when i won`t be able to phone until late afternoon after work.

Good luck Sunnyday. Trying to pay the mortgage off early is quite addictive and it is amazing where you will look to find more things to save on.

    Hope everything goes to plan.

Thanks for all the welcomes and helping me to be motivated :D I think that i`m going to like it here!

Right i`ve still got my eyes open after my three and a half hours sleep last night, i`ve made all the calls and i was planning on a nap as i work weird shifts but just can`t do it as i`m buzzing.

My total owed is actually lower than i first thought, i have a fixed rate mortgage with A&L at 4.99% and the fix runs out on 30th June this year. The end date quoted to me today is January 2021  and the balance is £31,802.78 :D

Overall i`ve not done too badly so far as we took the mortgage out over 25 years in Sept 2005 so the original finish date was 2030 so i`ve managed to knock off around 9 years :j

This is all down to you guys as reading one here has made me do something about reducing the debt so once again "thankyou"

On another note when we took our first mortgage out in 1988 it was an endowment mortgage, when it started under performing we took out a top up in the form of another endowment. These have done really badly and wouldn`t have touched the original loan but i left them to run as a sort of safety net. When we moved house and started all over again with a repayment mortgage i did the same again and left them alone.

Today i`ve been on the phone for the surrender values for both policies and asked for the papers to be sent out. I`m not going to count my chickens as i know that the values may change before i can get this sorted out but if all goes according to plan then i shall have a lump sum to pay off the mortgage.

If i`m correct then i can pay this in July :j If all goes as i hope then i shall have a new figure to post towards the end of July.

After this nice injection of cash thing will slow down hugely as over the last two years or so our circumstances have changed hugely and we now have only half the income that we once had. But i`m not going to let that beat me.

When i see the balance dropping every last penny will be drip fed into the account :D

I`ve decided that i`m only going to talk about it on here and with DH and my Dad as everyone else thinks that i`m mad for even attempting it, the huge fall in income being the reason for "other peoples" opinions being what they are.

We`ve downsized and cut on absolutely everything and we survive and get by well enough, most people i know can`t seem to get their head around the fact that we arn`t getting extra credit cards etc to see us through and think that we are weird for living within our means instead of borrowing more but tbh the thought of that just horrifies me.

So i shall ignore them and work towards my goal with the help of all the smashing peeps on here :D

Sorry for the length of my post :o i`m getting carried away again. I shall return when the next payment has been made - or before if i can`t stay away.
