I'm wondering if it's something that can be retro-fitted though, what with the button being there 'n all.
Would be good if you could. I know you can pick up a dongle very cheaply these days but seems a shame when it's already got the button. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

There are a few still available that are ex-display. My local store said it was expecting a further delivery this week, but wasn't able to go into specifics. I might just wait for the bank holiday deals next week, and if nothing comes of that, I'll just buy a Dell!0

Well, mine arrived today and I'm very pleased with it. And it DOES have Bluetooth. It may not be installed (mine came to life after upgrading to XP Pro and reinstalling the software from a back-up disk I made before the upgrade).
Try looking in the C:\Acer folder for a Bluetooth folder and see if there's an installation program there. I'll have a better look tomorrow (later today) if people are having difficulty finding it. Many thanks to OP.0 -

Very interesting Wombat. I have just passed laptop to my mate after setting it up for her, not that she would know what Bluetooth was for...but I am interested to see if this is the case for my own Acer lappie. Can't understand why nothing is showing in device manager though
Would be grateful for any further info. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

OK. If you go to C:\Program Files\Widcomm
you will find the Bluetooth folder there (hopefully) with all the set-up files. Just run the installation program and there it is. I haven't actually used the Bluetooth facility yet, but certainly you get all the right icons appearing and it displays "No Device" when the Bluetooth button on the front of the machine is pressed.

Found the setup file under C:\DRV\btw so I installed the program. Like you I get all the icons and "No Device" but I can't get much further. I can't discover any Bluetooth devices, I tried to find 2 mobile phones.
Bluetooth LAN access server driver is now listed under Device Manager - Network Adapters and shows it is "working properly" but if I go into My Bluetooth Places and Configuration under the hardware tab I get "The Bluetooth Device is not detected - Device Status Device Not Found".
I don't have a switch like on your model but my indicator light is supposed to be purple if Bluetooth and Wireless are working, which it isn't.
If you get yours working can you let me know and I'll have another try. very frustrating this!

I don't think I'll be going any further with Bluetooth for the foreseeable future as I don't have any Bluetooth devices. I wonder if there is another setup program for the Bluetooth adaptor and that the one we found was only the Graphic Interface setup?
I'm struggling with the wireless connection atm. I can see my Netgear network, but it won't connect to it. After a lot of fiddling I found a network test facility which said that my Network Connection (I think) on the laptop wasn't associated, and that I needed to fiddle with the settings of my "Radio Card". The settings on the router and the laptop are the same, but just can't get the ******* thing to connect. Any clues gratefully received.0 -

This is encouraging, I'm going to check it out.
I actually changed the HDD for an 80GB one within hours of getting the Notebook home. I installed XP Pro from scratch and installed the Acer drivers from their website. (I didn't use anything from the backup disc.*) Yet when I use the BT button on the front all I get is 'No Device' flashing up in big green letters at the bottom of the screen.
* I was really surprised that there was no recovery CD with the Laptop. I realise there is/was a recovery partition, but I expected a CD/DVD too. Then to be asked to create on after turning the PC on for the first time?! Cost cutting, or what!
Edit 1:
I know this is getting slightly off topic and that this isn't a technical support forum, but due to so many people here getting this Laptop and wondering about Bluetooth, I thought I'd mention these threads on the Acer BT 'issue'. Lots of people have been wondering the same thing.
Edit 2:
There seem to be lots of people asing about whether or not their laptops have BT hardware installed. Some claim to have successfully enabled it, some can't. I belong in the latter group. I have just installed the Widcomm BT drivers from the recovery disc I created when I first got the PC. After opting to proceed with the installation when it detected there was no BT device, all drivers and icons were successfully installed. However, it was all for nothing as it only confirmed there is no BT hardware installed in my Laptop. So it looks like the best option is to get either a USB or Card BT adapter.0 -
I have tired to ring my local store, but was put through to a service centre.
She said eveyone had been ringing up trying to get hold of these- my local store has none in and no due for delivery.
