However, as I am a student, and will only really using it to word process/browse the web, is the Acer one suitable? Would the battery be easy to replace this time next year when inevitably its a bit worn out? I'd be prepared to spend £30 or so updating the RAM if needs be.
Thanks
Is it worth it? I think so. Have spent tonight setting one up for a mate. It only has the base 256MB of ram but was was pretty nippy.
Quick comparison - the Dell has a smaller screen, no DVD writer but comes with MS Works :undecided . This one has a bigger screen, a DVD writer, no office software but Open Office sorted that out.
Don't know about the battery, sorry. I know you can order replacements via Acer. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

For anyone who's bought the machine, how easy is it to upgrade the RAM?
Does it have a removeable panel at the base or is it one of those machines that need to have the keyboard removed to fit the RAM?
thanks0 -
Both slots under a removeable panel, one spare0

Have come into this discussion late so can someone tell me what the hard drive size is and would it be suitable for photographic work? Thanks.:T0

Thanks, thats rather good actuallly, you couls get rid of their 256MB and put two 1GB sticks in instead.0 -

I picked mine up yesterday after ringing around Tescos, Woolworths and Comet. The Comet store had 3 left when I called, but wouldn't hold any for me. So I jumped in my car and shot over. I got there an hour later and they had one left. I was well happy.
I got just the laptop for £299 but they have this one on their website. Woolworths also had it on their website (PC only) for £299.
The laptop has a 40gb HDD and as far as handling the editing of photographs, I'll have to get back to you on that one. I haven't had the chance to use it yet.
I have just swapped the HDD for an 80gb one I had lying around though. I plan on adding a 1gb stick of RAM shortly. And then maybe swap the supplied 256mb stick for another 1gb stick if it needs it.0 -
