512mb sticks from LowestOnWeb for £25.98. (and 3% from Quidco)
1GB sticks from eBuyer for £57. (and 1.5% from Quidco)
Well, yes, and then again, no.
Crucial RAM is rock solid, cheapo RAM isn't. I've been buying RAM sticks for donkeys' years now, and the crucial stuff is top notch. They also have a lifetime guarantee - I once had a dicky motherboard and crucial replaced two perfectly good sticks of ram (replacements sent next day by special delivery) under the guarantee before I swapped out the motherboard. I've had cheap RAM die on multiple occasions and would recommend crucial RAM over generic every time.
On the other hand, the moneysaving half of me would say that statistically the cheaper RAM is better value for money. Say a 10% failure rate of cheap RAM and it's a safe bet to get the cheap RAM and replace it if necessary. It's a gamble, but there you go.0 -
For anyone who is interested, I asked them if they would price match £299 and they said yes. But had already bought a diff one by the time they replied0

They will price match as long as the shop is within 10 miles of the store and the item must be in stock as they normally ring up to check, not bad if you get them to match it and you can then pick it up from the store instead of waiting for it to be delivered
I am thinking of buying one even though I have a desktop PC I have fancied getting a laptop also so I could get a wireless router to get broadband around the house for the laptop and also connect my xbox 360 via a wireless connector0 -
Just checked back on the Comet site and they have put the price upto £329.990

I bought one from Tesco's, a bargain, it also has DVD + rewrite. I agree more RAM is needed but is £10 on Ebay to double. I'm a fan of IBM's & hubby is going to have this one, once I get my new IBM, but it is very nice, lovely screen (WS) hard drive was partioned, very handy. It was a little slow to begin with but got rid of Norton & added AVG & tweaked it & it's now running very smoothly, the keyboard is also very nice. Normally I would not have touched an Acer, but actually I'm very impressed with the quality.0

Would this Ram be ok for the laptop to upgrade it?

£12.34 for 256mb RAM0 -
My current machine (Acer) is over 3 years old - it has no faults and works really well - I edit video for a living & the Acer has proved it's worth on location. I've promised my daughter she can have it when I buy a new one.
I took a chance buying Acer (got a free PDA & 1 year IFC with it from Staples) but have been well pleased - It's lasted much better than my previous Sony Vaio - which gradually died as soon as the 1 year warranty ran out.
I've been checking out the specs on the £599 Acer in Tesco. While it is possible to spec a similar Dell/Toshiba/Asus for similar 'ish money the Dual Core Acer at Tesco includes a 3 year collect and return warranty.
The only thing holding me back is the thought that they'll drop prices again before xmas as dual core becomes standard - might see a £399 dual core by then
BTW adding RAM is simple - I've installed 2 x 512MB in my laptop - if you can fit a fuse in a plug you can install RAM in a laptop. Acer actually included full instructions with diagrams in the manual for mine 3 years ago.0 -
I have a desktop PC and always fancied having a laptop also, do you think this is a good first time laptop and I am considering purchasing a wireless router for my PC so I can use my laptop downstairs and connect my xbox 360 to the net via wireless
Could you get a better spec machine for the same price as I have no idea on laptops
Thanks0 -

£12.34 for 256mb RAM
Most current laptops with Intel processors need DDR2 SODIMM RAM.
PC2100/PC2700 and PC3200 are the earlier type of DDR RAM.
Adding 256MB won't give it much oomph - a bit but not a lot.
For not much more money you could add 512MB like this from Aria:-
OCZ 512mb PC2-4200 DDR2 SODIMM DDR2 533 SDRAM OCZ2533512VSO £27.95 exc, £32.84 inc.0 -
