The model delivered from Comet was the 2410 in my case. And no back-up discs with mine, but very easy to make one. IIRC it takes either 4 CDs or 1 DVD for the back-up.0 -

Thanks
I will check mine when it arrives tomorrow, is their any difference between the 2410 and 2414 that you know of or is it just a newer model?0 -
I can't see any major differences between the 2410 and 2414. It says here that the 2414 is simply a different configuration.

The only main differences I can see is that it ships with XP Pro and has double the RAM. Although I haven't looked in detail at the specs. All the other major components (screen, wireless card, USB, CD-RW/DVD etc.) seem the same.0 -

They used to provide them, well they did when I bought mine in December 2004, but it seems they are cutting corners now. Not a big deal and proves that the DVD burner is working correctly I suppose.
When I fired the laptop up for the first time, Launch Manager (or something similar) started to run and eventually prompted me to make a backup DVD, however, the system froze first and I had to power down as I couldn't close the running program any other wayNot a good start but no detrimental effects and it finished the process on reboot.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

I dont think blue tooth is fitted as when you press the button it says no device in green..
The only issue i have is the battery life is not brill, looking at the battery pack supplied it is quoted as 2000mah , i have seen an oem one fleabay which is rated at 4000mah i assume this would give you twice as long, anyone tried ??0 -

As I said in the other thread, I know there is a big gap between the two, but its unclear whether its worth the £225 saving for the Acer Travelmate 2414WLMI & then adding a few extras (any sugestions) or opting for the Acer Aspire 1654WLMi as suggested in the other thread0 -

That is exactly the question I wondered, as I plumped for the Tesco Acer...(got it a couple of weeks back now before you all hound me as to where from), but if the battery life is the only drawback, surely all you need is a better battery...
so what is a "better battery" that will do the job in this PC?0 -
I got one for £299 at Comet in Carmarthen this afternoon. Seems they had 6 delivered today.
For £299 seems like a very good machine. You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0 -
While the Acer 2414 is a good price, the specs are not brilliant as to be expected, and while it is ok for web browsing and light work, it needs upgrading in the Ram and HD dept. if you want to run something like photoshop.(believe me I tried!) Add in any number of MP3's & Photos you may have, and that HD seems small, that's why I took mine back today (and it had 2 dead pixels) and swapped it for a Acer Aspire with Centrino 1.7ghz 2mb cache processor 1GB Ddr2 Ram, graphics accellerator & 80GB HD with a lovely Crystalbrite 15.4" screen. It cost £425 mind, but if you take into account it has 4x the Ram and double the HDD and a great screen (the 2414 looks decidedly murky next to it) then the extra £126 seems money well spent as opposed to upgrading the 24140

Depends what you want the laptop for as £299 is a great price if you don't want to spend much money
Each to their own as myself I will probably only be using it for web browsing and documents etc so it will suit me and I have a desktop for everything else0
