Another Christmas-related question...sort of.Finally_Solvent wrote: »Just discovered this thread and only just seen your post so you may already have frozen your bargain pudding. Just wanted to say you don't need to waste freezer space on freezing them as Christmas puds usually have a very long 'best by' life. It would probably be fine to just store in the cupboard until next Christmas.
I have some Christmas cakes that are covered in marzipan and icing. I was going to leave them as is, but then thought about feeding the cake to extend its stored lifespan instead, which I suppose I could theoretically do from underneath? What useful purpose can I use the icing and marzipan for?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

We took a two year old Fortnum & Mason Figgy Pudding out of the cupboard a couple of weeks ago and it had stored perfectly well.
It wasn't particularly pleasant to eat though as it contained hundreds of gritty little fig seeds which were quite hard and caught in the teeth. For anybody wanting this type of pudding I think the traditional mixed fruit version is probably better.1 -

how may times do you overfill the kettle..I keep a flask handy and fill with the boiled water to either make a coffee for later in the day or just use the water if im wanting tea later saves reboiling the kettle1 -
Honestly. I am all in favour of using up what we have, but there is a limit!1

That’s a great idea, I often boil more than I need. It’s amazing how much extra energy is used when boiling a kettle that’s been overfilled. I shall hunt out my flask

I just boil the correct amount each time by filling the kettle cup by cup.jammy_dodger wrote: »glad to see this thread revived

Last year for Christmas l got a water heater which heats and dispenses the cup/quantity of water you need. I only use the kettle for more than 2 people. No waste and costs less to use than a conventional kettle xCount down to retirement 20231

Are you referring to my icing repurposing question? Have decided to freeze both - marzipan can be chopped up and go into cakes as I bake them, and the icing itself will be turned into syrup for when I make Indian sweets, so no waste there either. Just not keen on the egg white component.Honestly. I am all in favour of using up what we have, but there is a limit!
I'm intrigued - had assumed that this would cost a lot more to run but am interested in what you bought?shabbychic12 wrote: »Last year for Christmas l got a water heater which heats and dispenses the cup/quantity of water you need. I saw a little quote and thought of this forum...
Use it up,wear it out, make it do or do without.
I’ve written it at the front of my family diary/accounting book and hope to stick by it.2 -
Thanks, I've P'inned this quote. I'm okay with the first three, but doing without never occurred to me. I might have in my younger years, but now I think that life is just too short.Kaylataste wrote: »I saw a little quote and thought of this forum...
