Apparently it was a saying from the Great Depression in America. I've adopted this as my mantra for years now, not that I've always been able to live up to every part of it:o. I write it in the front page of each new diary I start, just in case I forget it;)1 -
A thought about keeping hot water in a kettle for the next cuppa: I cover the hot kettle with my tea towel which keeps the water warmer without the need for a flask. 2 towels works even better.
May not be as effective as a flask but better than nothing and less bother?
Also if you're taking a flask out with you for the day, wrap it in a sock and it will stay hot for longer! And some cafes will refill your flask with hot water for free, eg any cafe run by a charity or religious body is likely to. In my experience. So I take teabags and a little bottle of milk, then have tea for the way out and the way back on a day trip.1 -
My water heater is a daewoo you fill it like a kettle but it only dispenses instant hot water when you press you decide how much. Much cheaper than boiling a kettle for one cup xCount down to retirement 20231

I've got one of those water heaters. After my husband died I kept putting the kettle on for a cuppa and never making the tea as I got distracted so when I saw a friend using one of those I thought it ideal for me. I have a Breville and if I press the button, the tea is made quickly. It's a great time saver as well as a money saver and lots of my visitors have bought their own since seeing mine. I still use the kettle for boiling water to cook pasta etc. or if I have a few visitors but most of the time I use the hot water machine.1
