I see the last bit as 'don't buy a replacement automatically'. For instance, if I have 3 pairs of jeans and wear one out, my instinct is to buy another pair of jeans!
I have several with gaping holes in them that I just can't let go of, thinking that they will come in handy for "painting". Whilst I have used them instead of overalls, the question is how many outfits I need for such rare activities :D

I'm still intrigued by this! What is it, and how efficient vs an electric kettle?

Thanks, I've just saved a notional 5,600 pennies by deciding to stick with my kettle :rotfl:

I'd forget the Hot Cup variable and go for the ONE CUP

Had one for 12 years I'd guess, quite possibly longer.

Once you've tried one you'll probably retire the kettle for 99% of the water you boil.

I switch it on as I pass by on the way to get my mug from the cupboard. I then get a spoon from the cutlery drawer before going to the coffee jar that's quite near the ONE CUP. 1 spoon of coffee and 2 teaspoons of sugar later I put the mug under the water dispenser before going to get the milk from the fridge. I can hear the water making a noise which means it's a few seconds before it will be in the mug
Start to finish - 55 seconds - just a mug full of water boiled.
Didn't have to measure it - approximately 250 ml every time.
No waste of energy heating even an extra 5 ml let alone another 250 ml of water that you're just going to leave to go cold.

Next time you make just 1 cup of tea/coffee, pour out and measure the water that's still in the kettle after you've filled your mug that you didn't actually need.

Also if your kettle is 3kw, like most are, which is the same as the ONE CUP, you'll also be waiting twice as long IF your boiling twice the amount of H2O

Furthermore from a safety point of view, you NEVER have to lift a kettle full of scalding hot water, transport it to the cup (even if it's just inches) and then pour it out with a risk of spillage etc.

As for saving a "notional 5,600 pennies", the ONE CUP regularly available for around half that price in ASDA (£30 only a week ago) and Sainsburys (something to perhaps spend your Nectar double up bonus on) ...

.... AND you are "wasting REAL pennies" (and seconds, even minutes) every time there's an extra ml in the kettle that you don't need :D

This makes the case more interesting. My cup is 400-450ml - does that make a difference? And I make up a HWB quite often.

Not money saving, unless you already have one, but I use my espresso machine for hot water for a mug of tea, rather than boiling in the kettle, it's much quicker.

It's not just shirts with DH, it's jackets and all sorts of clothes totally unsuitable for any physical work:eek:. I keep telling him he'll never wear a tweed sports jacket or a blazer for gardening in but he still has some mental block when it comes to turfing them out. He wears his clothes almost to destruction anyway so a blazer worn for donkey's years in normal wear is certainly of no saleable interest to a charity shop:rotfl:. I've offered to take them to the collection places for items just for recycling/shredding/rags etc (the charity shops are always glad of them so long as they are bagged separately from wearable clothing and labelled). He still seems unwilling:mad:

    Hi guys
My OH has clothes for the garage to work on his motorbike. He wears some and then they become rags. He has to be in the mood to part with clothes for CSs but I have put a ban on no new t shirts unless some go.
I’ve recently got to my target weight but am having to fight the urge to buy new clothes. I’ve got enough but soooo love buying new ones after I hated shopping for clothes for so long. I will resist ( well most of the time)

I keep a jar of powdered milk or Coffeemate, so that when I run out of milk a few days earlier than expected and before I need to do a big shop, I can use it in my coffee and tea thus saving me a trip to the corner shop where the milk is much more expensive.

I've never taken to either, Coffeemate tastes sweet and oily, and milk powder different so its gotta be fresh moo juice for me - which is a bit weird considering where it comes from!
