If only I could learn to eke it out!!

I discovered last month that I have competition: my mum hates it but my dad appears to love it. Hence it had mysteriously disappeared when I went back a couple of days later :o

Still, I compensated by buying a load half price on NYE. The days of getting hold of 1kg ones at the 99p store in March are well and truly over :(

I made myself this from basic left overs

    Bubble and squeak burgers

6 good sized cooked brussel sprouts
2 peeled boiled and mashed spuds
2 diced mushrooms, starting to look a bit weary in the fridge :)
a handful of diced red onion from the freezer
left over bits from the pack of cooking bacon I had bought

There were three good sized bacon chops which had been wrapped and frozen individually and the odd bits and pieces left over I used in the 'burgers'

I fried the bacon diced up to a crisp along with the onion, and chopped up mushrooms.
in a separate bowl I mashed the potato and brussel sprouts then added the cooked bacon, mushroom and onion mix .

I formed one pattie which I had cooked for lunch topped with a poached egg, and it was really nice.

After lunch I formed four decent sized (around a burger size ) patties from the mix ,dipped in flour ,egg and dried sage and onions stuffing mix. then put them separately on a small plate in the freezer and froze them

Once frozen I bagged them up for a side dish to have with either a couple of sausages or one of the bacon chops at some point in January.
a savoury and tasty potato burger type which I can cook straight from the freezer in the frying pan. I have a circulare frying pan which needs no oil to cook stuff in ,or I could even cook them in my remoska, a sort of crispy bake.Used all the odds and ends up so no wastage at all .I am really pleased with my 'bubble burgers ' cost to make was really time and a bit of flour, egg and stuffing mix ,all of which I had in the cupboards anyway.

Love the idea of making b&s burgers and freezing them. Hubby won't eat b&s, so this is a way that I can have it. Thanks JackieO

Tried to take a load of stuff to the charity shop yesterday but they were closed so I took all of the clothes to one of those “cash for clothes” places & made £11!

Boyfriend’s birthday is today so, instead of buying a kind of rubbish themed cake for £12 from Tesco, I bought a £1.75 panettone in the Xmas clearance, a pack of fondant icing & decorated my own cake for about £6.

Your car must have been filled to the brim with clothes. £11 that is brilliant.

Have just ordered a Fortnum and Mason Christmas pud 75% off to click and collect. Hubby gets free travel in London being over 60. So he is going to pop up and collect it for free. Going to freeze it for next year. Half the price of what we paid for our pud for this year from another place. Never had one from here before so thought we would give it a try.

I've started stockpiling reduced pastry in the freezer. My local Co-op often reduces packets of pastry to 20p so I use them to make pies & quiches with leftover chunks of gammon, cheese & frozen peas for my lunches.

Hubby went up and also came back with boxes of mince pies £12.95 down to £1. Who would pay £12.95 and £13.95 for 6-8 pies

We need a review of these mince pies. Are they covered in gold leaf?

Just discovered this thread and only just seen your post so you may already have frozen your bargain pudding. Just wanted to say you don't need to waste freezer space on freezing them as Christmas puds usually have a very long 'best by' life. It would probably be fine to just store in the cupboard until next Christmas.

I've patches where mould is a bit of a problem. Instead of getting out the paint pot, or buying a specialist mould cleaner, add bleach into a spray bottle of water, a rough ratio of 1 part bleach to 25+ of water. Spray the solution on the mould and wait about five minutes where the mould should have disappeared, Take care though with any drips. This trick works brilliantly on grout.

If the mould doesn't go away, like on wood, mix some Bartenders Cleaner into a paste and paint it on the stains, leave overnight before brushing or cleaning off. Repeat if necessary.

I also save a bit on glass cleaner for my solid stove, instead of buying specialist glass stove cleaner, I put washing up liquid in water, then spray on the cold glass. For more dirty glass, dip the damp cloth in some ash from the fire, with a gentle scrub any smoke and tar stains should be removed, leaving the glass bright and shiny.
