I have stopped buying black plastic sacks - instead I use the sacks that come through the letterbox asking for donations. You know, the ones claiming to help the needy yet lack a registered charity number? The ones that profit from the misery of others?

Its not often I act with contempt, but this is one of those few occasions. The fact it saves me 5p per rubbish sack is not even a silver lining, it doesn't come close. I urge you all to do the same.
:) My parents' home gets several of these a week. We're always a bit suspicious about the bona fides of these collections and take our stuff to certain specific chazzers with gift aid registration.

At my suggestion, Mum uses these bags inside out in the kitchen bin, which is a tall oval and would otherwise require a bought bag. They all go into a wheelie bin anyway and the bin men have never expressed an opinion on black sacks vs other options.

It accounts for about 4 bags a month and we haven't even got close to keeping up with their arrival.:(

Same here with the non-bona fide charity bags, I use them as liners for my living room bin and for a packaging and junk mail bin by the front door.
I've had an eco washing ball arrive to review for free (Am@zon), I use Aldi gel, when I'm not using Laundry Gloop so it won't save me an enormous amount, some 10p a wash, but that will mean that if I'd bought it, I would have paid for it over 100 washes. Of course, if I used money is no object washing gels at 34p a throw, it would be paid for in less than a third of the time.

I stupidly forgot to get Dishwasher tabs, and because I had a houseful today and an overflowing D/W, I decided to take a risk and use Aldi non bio washing gel in the Dishwasher. And vinegar in the rinse aid part. Still alive!

Teaspoon of each. Magic. All came out shining. Stuff doesn't smell of anything awful either. Am I mad?

I'd say it's the same formula for D/W liquid anyway. i.e. low sud formula.

    Anyone else try this?

    No more tabs for me!

I have not, but it is a good tip to know! :T:)

I just looked up toilet paper (empty) rolls gift boxes. http://www.rightathome.com/Documents/12-Days-of-Wrapping/DIY_ToiletPaperRoll_GiftBoxes.pdf

  • Use shower gel as shampoo. It gets the job done just as well if not better. I think cheap shower gel is nicer to use than cheap shampoo, and it's often cheaper. :p

I love the Lidl grapefruit shower gel - it smells lovely and makes my hair clean and fresh. I bought several of the XXL 1 litre bottles when they had them in for .99, but have also used their smaller 300ml bottles of lime or citrus shower gel and been very happy.

I'm going to start keeping a notebook list of what I make for dinner. I have seasons of loving to cook and then there are times that I hate cooking and can't think what to make. I feel this will help me meal plan and get me through those times. That way I hope to not fall back into buying too many take aways a month because I haven't planned what to make.
I'm going to list all meals, even the simplest. I'm also going to write a note about where I found it if it's a new dish my family loves. I hate it when I want to make something again and can't remember where I got the idea/recipe. (This is age related I'm sure :D )
I think it will help save money>>>I can plan around what's on sale and know what I'm going to make. Plus, as I said, stops the take out food. :T

    Stupid tip: shake the bottle!

We went camping for a week, and I brought along a bottle of 'nourishing shower gel' that I had bought on a free-after-rebate scheme some time ago (maybe two years) and it was lumpy.... DH decided he did not want to use it anymore and wanted to buy a new bottle. I shook the bottle vigorously, and the gel became creamy soft, and perfectly good to use (up). I won't be buying that type again, as I don't like feeling 'nourished' after I've showered; it feels greasy to me.
