I'm picking up some good tips from this book:
One of which is that the fridge freezer is the hardest working electrical appliance in the house. Knowing this means I'm more likely to prioritise using it in a cost effective way (fridge empty and freezer full, not chilling foods too quickly etc).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Thanks for this. Very useful. We've got some in the cupboard that needs using up.
I was so pleased to read this, I posted it thinking "Oh, it's just you, Andrea, nobody else will have whey protein.."
Delighted to be wrong. Thank you for taking the time to let me know.
Vfm4meplease - off to look at that book on Amazon, thanks.
Edit: Lots available from 1p with £1.79 postage, so that's that sorted, bought with vouchers from doing surveys, of course.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... The bit about debt doesn't apply but enjoying life with less is an incentive to me. Having said I've got a number of books on the same subject so know the theory, a bit of additional motivation is always helpful though!
Eta: one of the ideas I'm toying with once I'm back from holiday is a fiscal fast every month (for me, that would be the equivalent of 7 NSDs a month).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've been replacing my light bulbs as they burn out with LEDs. Helps spread the LEDs higher cost over time.
VfM4 I took a food safety course once offered by the state of New Mexico and was told to chill food as quickly as possible to prevent evil little bacterial growth.
This was the recommendation from the US Department of Agriculture.
Discard any food left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours—1 hour if the temperature was above 90 °F (32.2 ºC).
Place food into shallow containers and immediately put in the refrigerator or freezer for rapid cooling.
Use cooked leftovers within 4 days.
Reheat leftovers to 165 °F (73.9 °C).Overprepare, then go with the flow.

My brother who is in the catering trade and lives in the States says the same, chill the food as quickly as possible. Even if it's still warm, it goes in the fridge. I have to do this in Cyprus, as other than bacteria growing, food left out attracts ants, so not to be encouraged. I tend to stick food in the fridge first, and then when cool, portion and put in the freezer.
I suspect it's not quite so relevant to do this in the UK, as rarely are temperatures so high....actually practically unknown in north Scotland, where I lived. Just come back from there, and it was positively balmy at around 22C some days. :rotfl:0 -

I get so much from Amazon that I let Buzz Agent go a bit, but it gave me a few nice items over the years.
Doing Buzz is far harder work for far less reward than reviewing for Amazon is, though.
How do you get onto a review panel at Amazon please?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

This might sound a bit odd but.....
I buy the tiny handbag size hand sanitising gels (50mls), I use them a lot! Three for a pound or something like that.
Anyway, when they are done, I wash em out well, and they are FANTASTIC for decanting shampoo, conditioner, etc. into for the "liquids" bag when flying handluggage only.
Remember to mark what they are with a felt tip pen though!
I refill the smaller handbag size hand gel from the big ones saves loads I also use bubble bath as hand soap and sh gel virtually all identical2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0 -

I knew someone would ask.
I originally just reviewed items for my own pleasure before Amazon asked me to review for them.
There is a Vine Voices scheme which is 'Amazon-approved reviewers'; I got on to this by invitation directly from Amazon as people liked my reviews. You do have to be prepared to put some effort in to writing them.
However, any reviewer can add their email address to their profile, and sellers may contact you - although typically only higher ranking top 2000 (or so) reviewers are contacted.
It's also essential to disclose that you received the item free to review. My items directly from Amazon are tagged Vine Review of Free Item or something similar, but you must disclose that you didn't buy the item if you receive it for free or at a substantial discount.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
