A piece of thick polystyrene or heavy duty foam would do the same job.......no idea why I didn't think of this before, it's only taken me 6 and a half years!

Is it necessary to buy crumpet rings or is it ok to not use them. If not, then that saves me money. They sound good and I want to try making some.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I always thought "flannel" was THE name (ie the standard name - same as "towels" are "towels" everywhere) for flannels/washcloths. I'm West Country.0

I think "flannel" is the name all over U.K. similar to "spuds" we all know that`s potatoes.Do I need it or just want it.0

I have successfully made crumpet rings from rings of cardboard (cereal packets) covered in foil. They will wipe clean and last for several uses.

A door wedge wouldn't work on mine, wasn't deep enough, and too much depth to the very narrow window sill. Thank goodness that I only have one like that, the rest all have the tilt in option too, goodness knows why the hall one doesn't. On saying that, it's good to have the window fully opened for air circulation.0 -
