I am with Scottish Power, and I do get benefits. I had to send in a declaration with NI number so the benefits can be checked. I cannot remember what the qualifying benefit was. I found that when combined my energy bill was lower than the very best alternative yet my quote was amongst the lowest to start with. This is one area that the energy switching services need to address. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Thanks for that, Frugalsod and AnnieO. We're with British Gas and Anglian Water. I suspect that, since he doesn't get disability benefits, he won't qualify. But it's worth checking out just in case.

No need to go on holiday for a sun tan, just sit in the garden.

Not exactly the same, but it may be useful to know that most councils do not charge any council tax to anyone with dementia.
My FIL was diagnosed with Alzheimers and I contacted his local council. He has not paid any CT since, and also received a rebate from date of diagnosis,Jack of all trades ... Master of none

I like the sound of Impossible Pies! Please would you share the recipe?
I got this recipe from this board around 7 years ago. Hope this helps.
Impossible Pie
1 1/4 cups milk
1/2 cup SR flour
3 eggs
1 cup grated cheese
chopped bacon or ham
1 onion chopped
1/2 can of drained corn niblets.
Mix all together and bake in moderate oven 3/4 hour or until brown on top.
I put anything or as little in this depending on what I've got in the fridge. This makes its own pastry.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. When having a clear out of clothes see if you can pass on to other people.
Any clothes left put the cottons into craft bag. Un pick any buttons and zips.

Use a soda stream instead of buying can/bottle fizzy drinks.
We love the apple flavor. I make up the 2 bottles that came with the machine and put in the fridge for chilled soft drinks.
Cold tap water in the fridge is also refreshing in hot weather. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -

If you let tap water sit for a while (a few hours) before drinking,it tastes better.0
