I saw your post about the Oldies Club, voted, then looked up their website. The upshot is that I've offered Angel (9 year old greyhound) a home. I've had rescued greys for years (have three at present) so they were able to reference me immediately. I'm driving up on Tuesday with my three hounds (all oldies themselves) to meet her, and if all goes well and she likes us then she's found herself a family.
I wanted to thank you for highlighting this cause, and let you know that you achieved even more than you thought you would :-).
Best wishes to everyone on this forum - I'm a longtime lurker and all the tips on here have helped me immensely over the years, so thank you! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

Things I'm trying to do to save some pennies
We drink our morning coffee in a flask and have a big flask for boiling water after the kettle has been on.
Use less washing powder for clothes that aren't too dirty. Works so far.
Drive the cars more economically. We have 2, a big 7 seater for our family and an Eco little 4 seater which is only good when the big one is in school. So school days that I drive more than the 8 miles hd would be driving to work I'll take the small car and then if I'm doing less than 8 he will take the small car. Sounds confusing but it's working well so far :T
Reuse carrier bags and bpa free bottles.
5 mins in shower maximum most of week and limit baths (I suffer hip issues and baths definitely ease it but so much water!)

If I get those little apple pies (mr kipling types) or equivalent (and I try to get them YS!), I save the little foil trays. I wash them in warm soapy water and dry them and then use them again to make mini impossible pies (easy to make quiche), mini pies (sweet and savoury fillings) using left over pastry. All perfect for packed lunches or quick snacks.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Here is one for OCD types. I take meter readings daily of my electricity meter and so can get really accurate readings of usage and so can see what causes any blips in usage. Even with lots more baking I have found that my electricity bill has barely moved in years. Also it is worth checking whether you are entitled to any special discounts from your provider if disabled. I found that I was and got a big discount. In fact my electricity bill is now the same as it was in 1997, around £5 a week. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Who is your energy supplier, if you don't mind me asking? My DH is classed as legally blind, although he doesn't get benefits for it. But I wonder if he might be entitled to a discount. And do you know if a discount for disability applies to any other utilities, such as water?2016 MFW no. 47 £0/£3,000
