I do love this thread..
Here are my tips...
1.i invested in cast iron pans so can turn food off a lot earlier & food keeps cooking
2. When making mash cut potato into small cubes, they cook so much quicker
3. When having friends for dinner I always either cook a joint - goes a lot further and bulked up with veg. Or I do a mince based dish bulked out with veg & lentils ( spaghetti Bol, cottage pie, lasagna etc)Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j

I use coffee tins (i.e. Nescafe etc or whatever's on offer) as storage tins.
Orange peel in the airing cupboard makes all the sheets and blankets smell lovely. I have also been known to put lavender in there instead.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Good Advice - I might just try the seeds in a tub. I'm a complete novice though. Off to search youtube. Planting from seed is great for kids. dd is so into it now. She spotted the fruit trees in my lidl mag and wants the gooseberry!Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0

Hmm - depends on your point of view Wombat - I didn't think it really told anything we didn't already know. That's those of us that are at the 'coalface' so to speak!
Frugal - I use MSM too to see who'se the cheapest for particular items. I'm quite lucky as I have all the supermarkets within a 5 mile radius & can usually combine a trip to one of them along with some thing else. You're certainly right about the fluctuations in prices though - I think we all qualify for a degree in economics
If you have to drive to them, the cost of driving there can eat significantly into the savings. What I do is look at MSM whenever I am going to a supermarket and see what is cheapest there, and get it then rather than make special trips. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
I buy the big milk container then after it's empty, rinse it out , use it fill up the hot water when I turn on the tap and the water is yet to be heated , I tip the water I collect until it turns hot and pour it into my water butt .
The final water I save from the tap, I use to water garden etc, I made little holes in the milk lid to act as a watering spout , great for seedlings , knocked£2.00 a mth off my water bill saving water is way xmum "e" to the most perfect girl :Awho stood by me through it all nana to my beautiful grandson WLM 27.09.13:j

FREE seed are the cheapest seeds.
I got some tomato seeds from the Heinz tomato promotion. Approx 2 inches high now.
We thought a bit late. My own tomato seeds we planted in January. Now in the green house with flowers on.
I applied for the Free wild flower seeds but they have yet to turn up.
Not seen so many free seeds around this year on the freebie boards :0(The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Beautiful day yesterday so managed quite a bit in the garden. Replanted my 5 wall baskets for the front of the house. Planted my climbing beans & some left over will be passed on to DS1. Managed to find a place for some straggly leftover Geraniums from last year. All in all got rid of about 25 pots!!!! (all stacked neatly in the green house
) Just general house tidying today as its persisting down

I'm thinking about doing that too as they will probably last a lot longer than the carpy cheaper pans I buy.:)HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

If you're taking off nail polish, do it after a warm bath or shower then you don't need as much nail varnish remover.
When I wanted new cushion covers the ones I wanted were quite expensive. So I bought plain ones from poundland and sewed buttons and strips of ribbon (from my sewing box, the ribbon was ribbon loops cut off from tops) on them to recreate the cushions I wanted. My Gran also suggested using old pillow cases as cushion covers (fold in the excess).
If you can store your candles somewhere cool till you go to use them, they will burn slightly longer.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Raining all day so far.
Good for watering all the plants we put out yesterday. Filling up my pot with rainwater - I stand my indoor plants in for a drink.
Filling the bird bath.
Bad for all the bank holiday fates.
Saving the pennies today - crafting = knitting.
I am knitting baby cardigans for a expected grandchild.
Cost of wool about £1.50. Buttons cut off recyled clothes.
Just seen some hand knitted baby cardigans in a shop for sale @ £5.50 each. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0
