  • Hi many thanks for the replies and thanks Jackie. I have sent an email asking him to reconsider his decision but to be honest it ain't looking good i don't think. The time difference is a huge problem also when we are "trying" to communicate by email.

I am all abit confused with the information, now thats not because its hard to understand, but because my head and feelings are all over the place.
So in simple terms is that what i am doing?
Phoning the homeless department tomorrow to get myself on the housing list. And starting to look at private rents?
then i am phoning the benefits agency to start the ball rolling with what i am entitled too?

Then where to the CAB and the legal aid come into this? I have no money to pay for any of these services by the way. Thanks guys x

P.S my local council would be middlesbrough/Redcar and cleveland i can't find anything on their site about what may answer my questions RE bidding on houses etc.

Right, I am having a wee look at their webiste just now but try emailing these people today with your basic details and background, and follow it up with a phonecall tomorrow morning. I will be back to edit this with more info as I pick it up.

It appears they do have the bidding process which I don't really understand, we don't have it here, but I'd imagine the first person will be very helpful going by his job title.

You can apply online for housing through this scheme here.

The ppage I am picking this info up from is here

I could spend a whole day posting links, but there is actually loads of info online, it just depends what sort of frame of mind you are in.

Make sure you are taking care of yourself, your wee one needs you to be healthy. Also, don't beg him, he won't care, and when you are past this shock and upset you'll be bloody well upset at yourself.

    Jackie X

ETA one last link this is the council's money advice service, you may find it easier to have someone guide you through how to claim everything you may be entitled to just now, rather than trying to do it all yourself

It's choice-based letting, which means the bidding system.

    CAB is FREE
LEGAL AID is FREE if you qualify for it (which given that you have no income, no savings, no property etc is likely.

Other places who might be able to help are
    SHELTER
WomensAid Even if you not a victiom of abuse their help pages are really useful :D

Yes, womensaid can be very helpful at a time like this - and please be aware that if your husband messes you about financially (withholds finances, empties accounts etc) this is seen as financial abuse.

Well done for arming yourself with all relevant information and I'm sorry you are having to go through this.

  • Jackie i have emailled the first link with a brief outline of events.

I have applied for the bidding housing, and the form is completed.

I have the number to ring income support etc tomorrow and to get that ball rolling.

I have also started looking at private rents, if i was to accept a private rent would i definitly be able to get the rent paid for with being entitled to housing benefit, or do they pay a percentage etc?

TallBlondie, ask your local housing officer what the rent ceiling is for housing benefit for you and your 2 year old. There will be a ceiling rent-wise, but also in terms of the type of property you are renting. You will qualify for a 2 bedroom place with 1 reception, most likely, but if you rent a 3 bedroom place they would probably deduct some of your housing benefit as you don't technically need the 3rd room. Likewise if they think there are too many "reception rooms. Again, policy on this differs from area to area so check.

Is he the father of the 2 year old ???

    Is he a Canadian national?
Why did he go? is he planning to stay or return?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • yes he is.
