    :wave:Hello HB!

    Morning everyone else!

Another gorgeous day here. May be out in garden again seeing if I can turn my red bits to brown! (wheres that rolley eyed smilie when you need it!?)

Maman - yes I found the whole MIL apology thing a bit odd. Like you say , keeping a civilised distance is best policy methinks!

Think it will be an AF day here today. Shall drink lots of squash and water instead.

    Have good days all

    Miss P
    xx

    Afternoon all!

Just a quick passing through visit. It's odd but I don't really feel the temptation of beer in the sun. I suppose that's good in its own way.

I was in a foul mood on Friday though...still a bit of the "switching off from work" pain that I need to work on.

    And stress.

I do sometimes think I could have just the one and then, quickly wonder...what would be the point.

    Because I KNOW

    KNOW

    KNOW

    KNOW

that one would not be enough and any small buzz it could give me would be followed by all kinds of countereffects - all of which are likely to be make it a really bad idea.

    So there we are.

    Tea please!

    cheers

    Bis

    constant vigilance!
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

Ok, I know this was 10 days ago, but I'm so entertained by all the talk of dread of the hairdressers!

Being a vain bear, I love going...someone else paying me lots of attention & looking after me? Bring it on :D

Morning everyone. What a gorgeous day! Just popping on to say hi and hope everyone is fine. I just had to tell everyone on here about the fab book I've just read, I can highly recommend it. It's Allen Carr's "Easy way to control alcohol". It's written along the same lines as his "Easy way to stop smoking" book which helped me to give up smoking years ago. He makes some really interesting points about alcohol. I'm still AF, I think it's 16 days now for the score sheet and I feel so much better. My sleeping has improved and I feel more relaxed (perhaps I wasn't drinking cos I was stressed but stressed cos I was drinking - now there's a revelation!) Bye for now and have a lovely day in the sunshine xx

There is no doubt that drinking increased my stress levels. Well, not so much the drinking itself but the consequences of my drinking. Putting the drink down took away much of the bad stuff straight away. However, for me, that was just relief from alcoholism. Not recovery.
However, I couldn't stay stopped. I knew drink was no good in me, but I kept returning to it (even though there was less stress).
I need recovery to ensure I don't pick up today

If the book works - then great. I hope it does. Does it suggest you 'control' your drinking or actually stop drinking altogether?
I never read his smoking book, but my friends who stopped smoking successfully said that it turned you off cigarettes (that they tasted disgusting , made your breathing laboured etc etc). Does the book follow the same lines (that all alcohol is bad) ?

I'm always fascinated by other treatments - we are all different people so different things work for us all

I haven't left. Just been doing a bit of my own thing.

Muchos bearhugs to all. I'll try to catch up soon :)

Hiya HB - hope you're ok.

    How's the AF endeavour going?

I know this weather can turn my thoughts to drink. I romanticise about a cold lager from a frosted glass, or a Pimms and lemonade with cucumber and mint. Though I know that it was rarely like that with me. It could start like that, but wouldn't often end like that. Also, in bad weather I'd romanticise about a glass of red wine, or a Guinness in a warm pub. Any excuse for a drink:rotfl:

Today I had a can of coke out of the fridge, in a tall glass with loads of ice and some slices of lemon. That hit the mark and gave me pleasure.
    I didn't miss drink today

Addiction is something that presents itself as the solution to the problems it causes

    From David Foster Wallace.

    Just thought I'd share

And hiya GC :) The AF endeavour isn't really endeavouring atm. However I have realised that I need more than being on here to deal with it so have been giving that a lot of though.

Must log off now. My shoulder is getting better so I don't want to ruin it by staying online too long :D

    For me, alcohol is devious.
It'll trick me. It'll tell me that one won't harm, and I deserve to have a 'nice drink.
Even though my life is better without drink, it'll want me to drink again.

The key for me is that I don't listen to these cravings - usually they go very quickly. If they persist, I take some action to get rid of them.
If my life is going well, the last thing I should want to do is drink, but the reality is that I sometimes want to drink. That's my alcoholism.
However, I am a product of my actions not my thoughts. As long as i don't act out and pick up a drink, that's the main thing.

Not AF today, I had 2 weak wine spritzers at a bbq tea time. I'm not totally happy about it but not going to worry about it either as normally I would have hid a bottle all to myself and necked it.

I now know I need to be prepared and take decent AF drinks with me to this sort of thing as I can't stand kids fizzy drinks. It was bliss to come home to a coffee.

Back to AF now cos I prefer it :)

Hope everyone has had a good Sunday.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
