  • Thank you, I hope so too! I'm sick of having what my delightful daughter called 'a witches wart' on the side of my nose!

I have a mole (skin coloured) on the side of my nose. The doctor has booked me in for a removal as a minor op in the surgery. As described above, shaving I think. Does this method have good results? I have another on my chin - same colour and would like her to do that one also as it is getting noticebly larger also.

That's what I have. I had the mole on my nose shaved twice but it came back each time, that's why I'm considering the radio treatment as I don't fancy having a surgical removal as it will undoubtedly leave an unsightly scar.

It will depend on how deep your mole is, as to whether it stays away or not.

    Best of luck
  • Nice to hear other people looking at the Radio surgery. I went to GP after being annoyed by mole on face for years. He referred me to plastic surgeon saying it would be a several hundred pounds which sounded okay. Cut and stictched was the recommendation as excision would scar more. However, the fee would have been £750 and he charged £150 for the five minute consultation to tell me this without prior warning so it was just too expensive for me. £900 was not what I considered serveral hundred!

The Radio sounds good if limited scarring and does not sound too expesive. Does anyone know of a clinic around East Anglia?

    thanks
  • that sounds an awful lot!

I went back to the GP today, to ask if he had any experience of this radio equipment at Nottingham Laser Clinic. He looked at their website and was surprised that the operators of the equipment were GPs and not skin specialists ie dermatologists, never mind plastic surgeons. He said the clinic was regulated though, so it was up to me, he agreed that a surgical removal with the plastic surgeon would have a significant risk of scarring (because of the area of the mole) and that the radio treatment, although scarring may be less, the mole may reappear again (as it has twice already).....

I have been offered a free consultation with the plastic surgeon that removed it last time (shave excision), I have no idea how much he would charge for a surgical removal, I did ask him in a letter I wrote but he didn't say, just that he would see me for a quick consultation and wouldn't charge for that, but if it's going to be £750, forget it AND the possiblity of an unsightly scar.

The radio treatment is £300 but still can't find anyone that's had the treatment.... yet!

Impressed that your Doctor took the trouble to look at the website for you.

It seems that both Nottingham and Snowberry Lane Clinic use GP's but their websites say that they are trained in using the equipment and are experienced (which I would hope so!)

I think I am going to book with Snowberry Lane, just need to find the courage to make the phone call!

    I certainly will!
  • I look forward to hearing how it goes. I had temporarily put it on the back burner after the first consulation not going too well but have realised it is something I do not want to ignore.
  • Hi, this post is to everyone who's interested about the Nottingham clinic. I went there after being told I had to choose between keeping my mole (on my face) or having a scar when I went to Skn clinic, as they wanted to use the exision method, so i put it off for a few years but when I found out about nottingham i went along for a consultation. they are really nice, just as all reviews of the place say, and it is above a doctors surgery. i was told that the mole isnt as straight forward as some and although they can use the radiosurgery method it would need two goes, basically just so they don't go too deep the first time and cause a pitted scar. so for six months i basicaly had a flattened version of what i had before, slightly faded but still a mole. The actual procedure was fine, anaesthetic stung a bit but thats all. then after the six months he had another go, and this was last year. i'm a bit concerned about it at the moment (hence why i'm googling about other peoples experiences of this method!) as it has developed a little scar tissue in the centre and is still a darker, brown red colour overall. So at the moment I don't feel any better about the area on my face which was the whole point after all. They are very good at aftercare and always at the end of the phone and they've tried to reassure me that it is still in early stages of healing and after another 6 months is should look a lot better. I'm starting to be convinced there is no easy way of mole removal, there are draw backs to every method and this method certainly isn't 'magic' in the way it could be perceived to be. I am reassured that the doctor has seen thousands of other patients for this procedure. so, i guess everyone is different and i could just have badly behaved skin, but thats the stage i'm at at the moment,. sorry it's not the most postitive story you may be looking for. i have had no problems with the place overall, good customer service; however as one poster mentioned earlier i had noticed that two of the customer reviews on the website are strangely similar.

i may find in a few months that things have settled and looking better, but be prepared to wait a long time to see good results with this method.

surely there must be other people out there who've had the procedure done and it's all gone really well and healed up nice and quick?
