Laser mole removal?

  • Hi All, after reading through the whole thread I decided I'll go ahead with it so I've booked an appointment for this Friday with the Snowberry Lane Clinic. I'm planning to have 5 moles removed - one from my face, 3 from my body and one from my scalp (not sure if this is possible though). As my skin heals very slowly and is prone to scarring I'm a bit concerned what they're going to look like but a small scar is still better than a big brown mole on my face... Can anyone tell me if you have to rest after the procedure or can you get straight into the car? I have a two hour drive home after the treatment and I remember when I had my filling done at the dentist I was high as a kite for hours from the anaesthetic so I dont' want to risk an accident. Also, has anyone used creams or oils like Bio Oil - are they any good? Thanks.
  • I have been to the Nottingham clinic and am very pleased with the result. I had a portruding mole on face and had it removed by laser surgery. There was a scab for the 1st 8days, then it fell off and i now have a small red spot which has got smaller over the last few weeks since having it done. It is lovely and flat, flush with skin and easily covered with a dab of concealer, though i'm sure it will fade further with time. Much better than the mole! However had the mole been flat, I wouldn't have bothered as i think the flat brown spots are cute!
  • I had a raised skin coloured mole removed from my face at the end of July by the Nottingham Clinic. I had been thinking about it for a few years, and after reading this forum, finally plucked up the courage to have it removed. The staff were all very friendly when we arrived. I had a consultation with Dr Maini when I got there who explained everything to me. The procedure itself was painless. I was really nervous about the injection but it was ok. A little uncomfortable, but fine. The radio surgery was a wierd feeling. Occasionally stung a bit, but it wasn't painfull. It took around 10-15 mins. He then put a plaster on, explained the after care and I was off. We had 3 hour drive home, and by the time I got home, the plaster was soaked in blood, so much that it had come loose. I was really worried about it, but checked with the doctor personally who said to change the plaster and don't worry. It was still bleeding the next day. I had to change the plaster 3 times in total, but it finally stopped bleeding. When I took the plaster off (2-3 days later) it had started drying up and scabbing over. After about 10 days the scab fell off, and it was a big red mark underneath.

I am really pleased with the result so far. I'm just hoping the scar fades more. But to be honest, I'm so happy that its flat!! I do think they should mention that there is a possibility of bleeding though, as on the website it says there is no bleeding. This is why I was very worried when it bled as much as it did.

Its now nearly 2 months later and I have a flat pink mark which can be covered with makeup. It doesn't seemed to be fading, but I think it's a long process. I'm not using any bio oil or anything, but was wondering if I should be, to help the scar fade? Does anyone have any advice for helping the scar fade?
  • Hello people. I joined this site just to share my results. I had 11 facial and 8 moles on my back removed about 2 weeks ago at the Zenith clinic in Nottingham. The experience was not one I wish to repeat soon (I hid under a baseball cap for the first week). My main concern, which I wrote on the form and the nurse did even look at, was facial scarring. Now the scabs are off (7 are still there on my back) I am very pleased with the majority however, the most prominent (and probably the deepest roots) was in the middle of my left cheek that has left a pitted scar. I am religiously applying Bio-Oil twice a day and hoping that the indent will fill in. I raised the concern with Dr. Maini as soon as the plaster was off (day two) as I could tell all was not well. Dr.M was very good - he called me back on Sunday afternoon and told me to reapply the plaster for two further days. I can only wait for the skin to heal and keep on with the Bio-Oil. In the event that the crater has not gone I will see if it Zenith, who have a 6 month re-treatment policy if needs be, will laser (or something similar) over the indent so see if that can make the skin fairly uniform.

  • Hi,

I went down to Snowberry Lane yesterday to have about 55 moles removed from my back.

They were zapped with the latest laser (Smartxide) It was very painful (like having a cigarette butt stubbed out on your skin.) Today I am still very sore, and need to take pain-killers. Hope the results make the pain worth it.

  • I had a fairly large mole removed from my face by the Nottingham Laser clinic around 2 years ago. The mole had bothered me for purely cosmetic reasons for a few years and made me quite self-conscious (i used to look at it in the mirror everyday and wish it would just dissapear), so i decided i would give it a go.

I have to say initially i was quite nervous and after the treatment i thought it wasn't going to turn out a success. I remember going to a concert the same night as i had the operation and being blissfully unaware that the plaster was covered in blood and the area of skin was still bleeding. In the weeks and months after the mole seemed almost to return so i was worried that i'd just wasted £300.

However, after contacting the clinic (quite anxiously, i must say) after 6 months they reassured me that they would carry out a subsequent treatment until the mole was fully removed (this is, i believe, part of the agreement). 18 months on and i'm really pleased with the result, the area is now a light pink circle, but doesn't bother me cosmetically in the slightest and is hardly noticeable. Initially the scar was a darker red but this faded with time and i made sure i kept it moist as advised. As time goes on i worry less and less about the mole returning and it's really great to not have to think about people looking at it.

I would certainly recommend the Nottingham laser clinic.
  • Just thought i'd add some info here as I've been reading it for a while. I have had 12 moles removed via the shaving method and will post my findings.

I had two removed from my face, they were both slightly raised, not massively but they weren't flat. The scab came off after 2 weeks to reveal...completely clear skin initially, was amazing. It went pink after a couple of days and then took about 7 months to completely fade. 4 years on no one has ever noticed them and nor do I. I had two very raised moles removed from my collar bone area and by my armpit, again these are completely clear after just 4 months.

I had one removed from my front near my rib cage. This has came up red and raised and has left a more noticeable scar, but it will fade over the years. I had 5 done on my back too (slightly raised), they are still red after 4 months and will scar more than on my face.

So basically, I believe that if you have a raised mole on your face then it doesn't matter what method you use, the results will always be pretty decent. If the mole is very raised anywhere else on the body it will come off fairly nicely too with a very slight scar. If the mole if fairly flat anywhere on the body then I believe the scar will be much worst, and may leave pigment behind.

Hopefully that's of some use. My advise is to go with a skilled dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Also remember everyone is different and heal in different ways. Mole removal seems very hit and miss but it's whether you're willing the pay the money and take the gamble.
  • Along with the improvements in the technology, come also new techniques on mole removal. Dermatological clinics nowadays offer services on removing moles through mole removal surgeries or laser mole removal procedures. In mole removal surgeries, there have been three surgical methods that are being practiced.

Just read through the whole thread.

I have a quite a large, raised, skin coloured mole on my face (I won't get too specific). I think it's in a pretty difficult position in terms of removal because it sits on a curve. I'm worried removal will change the form of the curved area and I'm also worried about how big and pink the scar might be.

    From what I can see there are a few different legitimate removal methods;
    • Excision with stiches
    • Shaving
    • Radio Frequency Ellman Surgitron device (Nottingham/Snowberry)
    • Laser
Having read this thread and seeing videos on youtube I think the type of procedure to get is totally dependent on the type of mole.

I'm looking for a procedure whereby the form of the area is taken into consideration as any large pitting or deformation would change the shape of my face profile. The radio frequency method looks best in terms of lack of scarring, but to me it doesn't look very accurate. It's just a small wire snare that's used to kind of plane the mole off.

I was thinking about going down the plastic surgery/excision route, but judging by some of the comments on here, people don't seem to have had very good experiences with private plastic surgeons?

Going down the NHS route seems to be a dead cert for getting it shaved, which I don't think would be the best bet for me. Although I'm thinking I should see what my GP/dermo has to say about it first?
