Awww the poor little mite. She is being sick because her body is rejecting the food, because it is not ready!!!!!!

She only weaned her because she was being sick on SMA gold. I thought if they didn't react well with one milk you moved to another??

EA why would the rice do that? I thought his colic was becasue he swallows air sometimes when eating :o are there other foods he shouldnt have?

Oh i thought the aptamil comfort was an easier to digest milk and i thought rice would be just as hard to digest as normal baby milk?

    I dont know haha.

I should get my invite to a first time mums weaning seminar soon :D

    Thanks Glam :o

HV advice is that baby's digestive system isn't ready until 17 weeks at the earliest and anything before six months is considered 'early'. I weaned H early by HV standards, but he was ready and is now a great eater a lot more settled than before. I would personally be very reluctant to try before 17 weeks, but only you know your baby. How about Hungry Baby Milk? I think that is designed for babies like E, although I'm no expert. I think maybe Glam uses/used it so maybe able to help?

I did switch from he Comfort to the Hungry baby at around 12 weeks I think when J was feeding every 2hours. I switched back when I started weaning at 18 weeks cos he didn't need it and he was getting constipated.

Okay, I'm going to stick my oar in and be annoying.

Why are people in such a rush to wean? Milk is what is healthy and natural and provides the key nutrition that babies need. No one should "plan" to wean early until their baby actually reaches that age and THEN you can evaluate whether the baby is ready or not for food. If the baby seems like they need food when they hit around 17 weeks, then fine, but it really annoys me when people with 8 week (or whatever) old babies start getting all keyed up and automatically plan on shoving rice into their kid the second they hit 17 weeks or whatever. Why be in such a rush to have your baby move on so quickly??

So kindof, not a go at you, but stop worrying so much about what E may or may not be doing in the future. He may need 8oz bottles in a few weeks - he may not!! He may need some food at 17 weeks, but he may actually be happy with milk until he's 6 months old! There's absolutely no way of predicting it, so my advice is to stop stressing so much and just cross that bridge when you come to it.

End rant. Feel free to tell me to shut up, but it's really been cheesing me off lately :o (and not just here...I guess I'm sick of people asking me if I'm giving Finn food already. F*** off, he's only 19 weeks!)

(and just in case anyone reads this wrong, I'm not having at go at everyone who weans "early", I just don't like people who do it just because rather than actually listening to THEIR baby...not that anyone on here does that - grah, I think you all see what I'm trying to say. :o)

Aless - your post does come across as if you are having a go at Kindof, if you read back she didn't even ask about weaning. She asked what to do if E wants more than 9ozs, it was myself and Mel who suggested that at this time she may want to think about weaning as IMO a baby wanting more than 9ozs bottles on a regular basis who then feeds even more frequently needs a bit more than milk.
I agree that there is no rush, my sister did it early because she is impatient but that doesn't mean her baby needed it.

You've come across quite aggressive. So what if people have been asking you why you haven't weaned yet? No need to take it out on others. I might say, look if it was me I would definitely wait until at least 17 weeks as although it does say 6 months it also recognises that some babies require weaning early. To me E would be one of these babies due to his birth weight.
There is nothing wrong in asking questions (isn't that what we are here for?) and there is also nothing wrong with planning - after all plans can always change. I

I really feel sorry for people who ask innocent questions on here, I noticed quite a few people didn't even mention that they weaned earlier than the 6 month mark probably so that they didn't get the third degree.

IMO you are lucky not to have been in the position where at 18 weeks you have to make the decision to wean or not because you have a baby feeding constantly day and night. It's not an easy decision to make and it doesn't make it any easier to have things like that ^^^^^^ shoved in your face.

    Enough from me :o

Beenie, is that the new pushchair you just bought that's got a flat tyre
    Lol yes. :(

I managed to prise the tyre part-off the rim and found that it does have an inner tube (not sure who told me they don't..lol). Anyway i've used a puncture repair kit on it and hoping it'll work cos the hole was on the seam.

The most annoying part was trying to pluck the culprit thorn out of the tyre. Where's the tweezers when you want them?! But what a pita...I don't want another pushchair with air tyres, i get enough of punctures with DS and his bloody bike  It's a man's job IMO, same as putting the bins out :(:(

I was quite looking forward to following the "guidelines" (for once :A) and waiting as long as poss to wean Amber, but we've already started a few weeks ago and she's 20 weeks now. She was definitely ready there was no denying it.

I'm using jars atm and find Cow & Gate to be tasteless and bland, but Hipp Organic actually tastes like real food. I've only been giving her jars a few nights though so have only tried about 3 flavours lol. Baby rice before that, just to suss it out really and see how she took to spoon feeding.

She is v.good at feeding herself a half rusk lol. I expected there to be a little bit left over that was too small to hold but she managed to eat it all, she <3's them.

JM, the only trouble with those buggies is that they are very low... A friend of mine bought one once in an emergency (Her hubby had gone off with her pushchair in the boot and she was meeting her sister in town) and lent it to me to walk Aimee back from her house once when she was too tired... It was like some kind of torture pushing it up the hill, my back was agony... And I'm not particularly tall... 5'6...

The one that was just on the Asda baby event is just about perfect for a cheap, umbrella fold buggy...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • As I said before - there is nothing like weaning to cause a stir!!!

Glam - I didn't read Aless' post as agressive at all. And how can it be having a go at Kindof when she expressly says she isn't?

And I am not aware of ANYONE on this thread who is strict about waiting until 6 months???? In fact I can only think of 1 or 2 babies who did wait until 6 months.

And my final point - I don't see how birth weight has anything to do with weaning!!! It has been mentioned a few times and every time I think !!!!!!???
