Kindof - could you make up two half bottles instead?

    Yeah I could do that

Kindof- I can't help on the ounces but I found H wanted feeding more often rather than larger amounts. Between about 6-19 weeks he fed every two hours throughout the day and this has only changed since he started on solids.

Yeah he's having at least 6oz every 3 hours during the day (and night sometimes too)

my friends LO was a gannet but never went above 8ozs. I don't think you can get bigger bottles and tbh if a baby wanted more than 9ozs then it might be weaning time (but I didn't say that :silenced: :shhh:)

Well hopefully he won't go ever 8oz lol but I did wonder if he is going to be needed to be weened early, he's always chewing on his hands.

I don't really know, but I think generally, he would most likely be (needing) weaning by the time he was draining 9oz.....His milk consumption would drop then:)

Thanks, would the HV's and stuff be ok with me weening him early, like say he was draining his 9oz bottles when he was only 12 weeks old? would that be ok?

Kindof - I think as GISI says, he would probably feed more often first then you would just need to try and string it out to as close to 17wks as possible....(I weaned at 15wks) K was always a 3hourly fed baby...ever since the day he was born and by 15wks he was wanting more often so started on a teency bit of rice and over the next few weeks he settled back to 3 hourly feeds then obviously as his food intake increased his milk needs decreased. I founf he would then go longer between milk as opposed to drinking less at feeding time.

Tbh I really wouldn't worry to much about it until it happens (if it does at all):)

HV advice is that baby's digestive system isn't ready until 17 weeks at the earliest and anything before six months is considered 'early'. I weaned H early by HV standards, but he was ready and is now a great eater a lot more settled than before. I would personally be very reluctant to try before 17 weeks, but only you know your baby. How about Hungry Baby Milk? I think that is designed for babies like E, although I'm no expert. I think maybe Glam uses/used it so maybe able to help?

Kindof. It isn't up to the HV!!!! Of course going to ask their advice is always worth a try, but at the end of the day he is your baby, and you know him best of all.

Saying that, when I weaned Izzy bang on 17 weeks our HV (very old school, now retired) said to go for it. How many weeks is he now? I'm looking at the dates in your sig trying to work it out, but I've had a glass of wine and it is making maths hard :o.

We started with one meal of baby rice a day (just to learn how to do it really), then after a week we moved onto two meals then three meals after another week. Started off with just baby rice, then I started to introduce some pureed vegetables - to start with I mixed them with baby rice to dilute the new flavours a bit, and I only tried one new thing a day just in case of any nasty reactions. Oh, and look out for those nappies (don't panic after the first time you try beetroot ;) ).

GISI - I don't think so - maybe I will take one when she wakes up. It is actually the frock I got for her to wear to my Grannys funeral, but I like it, so I don't let the memories spoil it :)

Kindof, i always wondered what would happen when it got to 9ozs too haha.

Its hard with the hungry baby for you because of his colic. I imagine that baby rice would give the same reaction as its harder to digest.

My sisters friend weaned her baby with jars at 12weeks and she's constantly being sick, honestly it just constantly is coming out of her mouth like loads of dribble. And it smells :( haha.

Awww the poor little mite. She is being sick because her body is rejecting the food, because it is not ready!!!!!!

If any of mine were sick after starting weaning I would hold off and wait, mine were gannets though and gobbled it down no problems, they were very strong babies so already had great head control etc at an early age....I weaned ds1&3 early ds2 was never bothered about food and still isn't, I think he was over the 17wks when I weaned him anyway.....
