WM - I'm afraid it does get worse when they are mobile, rather than just staying on his back or front he know gets up and sits up which is waking him up more and making him harder to get down. :(

Have vague recollection of betimes with Joe, when he was 1+. Remember a nights of sitting with hand in cot, sneaking out, avoiding the squeaky floor boards. Oh god, now i've depressed myself. Am going off to watch sky+ Vampire Diaries. Have a bit of Stefan and Damon to cheer me up, before I go up and face arsey OH. With a bit of luck, he'll be asleep by then.

    Night all.

Glam, I didn't actually go anywhere for the 90mins, just the top stair. Every 5mins I went back in, laid her down and tucked her in. Was just soo desperate to sort it. And same as MM, I now do the bedtime voice as OH call it. It's a soft jolly chatter, up the stairs, little story book, then I keep talking gently about what wonderful little girl she is all the time I'm putting her in, and she always has her seahorse. I know now that if she cries for more than 5 she is not tired enough so I let her back up, like the other night when she had catnapped at 6.30pm!

You get used to the gagging. Then you get slightly grossed out at them gagging and regurgitating a bit of bread, chewing it some more, swallowing, gagging again and then finally it might make it to the belly. Or the floor.

Yeah I just took him up and he fell asleep on our bed so he's now in the cot. Can't leave him on our bed because he tries to lunge off it now.
I'm so tired of him not sleeping - literally and mentally. I'm even thinking I can't wait to go back to work so I don't have to fight him to nap during the day

Anyone (AF?) know where you can get those wedges so baby thinks they are in your arms?

J will fall asleep on his side lying on my arm but I'm fed up of spending 30mins trying to get him off every night and for naps. When I go back to work I'll be too tired to do it and will probably nod off instead of doing what needs doing before the next day!

our situations are so similar at times it scares me :D

i bought a 'wedge' thingy from wilkinsons. think it was about not much over £10. i cant remember how old LO was when i got it, but in searching for it, that is what made me realise she was suffering from reflux. if you google something like 'reflux wedge' you will get a few options.

we are still having a battle with sleep. i did get 12am to 6.30am the night before last after three terrible nights, but she is getting hard to put down again. i just can't seem to get any consistency with her sleeping
No probs Tara - anytime you want me to ramble at you give me a shout :D

I know this is not the advice you probably want but the minute I stopped worrying about Benjamin napping during the day (ie - just leaving him to it and waiting until he was really shattered or in his buggy or the car or whatever) that things fell into place. Fighting to get him to sleep has never worked...just made me into an emotional wreck.

MFD - can you set out what you do in terms of getting to the point of singing outside the door? as soon as i touch the door handle or get too close to the door LO starts crying. she is different if we aren't in the bedroom as i think she realises she is confined (for want of a better word) to the room.

i am really rubbish with singing baby songs as they are too high for me :D

He just woke up so I went up and popped his dummy in then sang Twinkle, Twinkle 3 times, the last time from the door and he's gone back off.

We do have the same routine which I stick to every night but he still won't settle. Guess I'll just have to stick with it and hope he starts settling again soon.

Yay for Twinkle Twinkle - I only sing TT, over and over...I like to stop in the middle of a verse and listen for movement to see if I can b00ger off yet! Amuses me!

This is definite singing territory - trying to sneak out and then stepping on the sqeaky stair was a nightmare!!

    Oops!
Jack has grapes cut in half (didn't know about the seal thing :o) and I just cut orange segments in half but he still has the skin on them.
He had Kiwi the other day and loved it - the little black seeds in the nappy were a bit gross though!

Hi AF - Wow 6 hours is good! The only way I get that is if he comes in with us. Last night I went to bed at 12.20am and he was awake at 1am then slept til 6,30am but I get crap sleep cos he's like a starfish!

Thanks for the replies, all. I don't feel so silly in being apprehensive with sis now.

Interesting to read all your bedtime routines. Our problem (shhh, don't jinx!!) isn't so much getting to sleep, it's staying asleep - i.e., very frequent wake-ups that happen (seemingly) totally randomly. One night will only be 1 or 2 and other nights will be dozens, it's so unpredictable.

I don't worry about the words, just tra la la will do, she bops anyway so singing is no good at bedtime, she'd be clapping and shouting with me.
