I only ever got halfway through crime and punishment, it was a bit of a slog... Have you read the night watch books? They're russian but well written...

Aless, I would be a touch wary of leaving the baby with people who haven't spent a lot of time with her as much for their benefit as hers... I would maybe make all the right agreeing noises with your sister and just evaluate the situation when you get there... You never know, he might be a dream being left ;)

yeah, that's kinda what I've been doing. Not committing specifically to anything, just making general agreeing noises and then I figure we can see where Finn is at (they change so quick!) and decide from there. It'll be hard getting her to understand, I think, as she doesn't have any kids and only has direct experience with her fianc! unusual situation...

Now I don't have a problem with babysitters (I mean, trust-wise), I just don't think he can be left for any length of time (and especially not at night)...but am I being silly? I feel like I don't have a problem leaving him but I'm worried he'll freak out and make hell for whoever's looking after him. Or is this normal to think that?? :o:o

eta: because we've never left him before...or rather, the 1 time I did for 3 hrs it went very badly for all involved. :(

Hi Aless - I am exactly the same about leaving T. I dont mind leaving him, say with family or DH or whatever, but I think I feel like sometimes only I can settle him. I think this stems from me breastfeeding him crossed with him not liking taking the bottle, but it is ridiculous as eventually I need to tackle this!! I always assume T is gonna start crying and get really upset when Im not there, when in reality, the odd times I have left him for short periods he has been fine, lol!! Maybe its my sub-conscious not wanting to leave him!!

Hi Kindof - Firstly hugs, I really feel for you. My friends baby had colic and he cried and screamed so much it also really got her down. We would go out for a walk with him and he would cry the whole time. He is now 6 months old (today infact!!) and he is sooooo much better now and has been for a good while now. So I guess what I am trying to say is that it wont be forever and it must be so draining. My HV said to me (when we thought T had colic but luckily it only lasted a few nights) that if anyone looks at you funny when you are out and about with baby crying, just to say that he has colic and carry on as you were. One of the lessons I am still learning now is to not think about what other people think, but I am still working on this!! My friend also used to take time out and leave baby with her husband for an hour or so just to give her a breather. I am bad enough when T cries now and its not even on the same scale so I really do admire you who go through this. xx

Plus, leaving an older child with people is way different to leaving a baby... My Mum is perfectly happy to take Aimee over night but getting her to watch Caitlyn for a couple of hours is always touch and go...

Maybe I'll give Crime and Punishment another go, it's been a few years...

Although I do have a heap of books stacked up waiting... Including War and Peace :o

Love them! Esp Mr Y :)

True Blood great reads, Crime and Punishment I thought was 'easier than it looked' and quite good through the middle at least, and the Night Watch series are also very interesting and good reads (I love the just slightly different cultural take on things). I am an avid reader!

I will definitely have a look out for the night watch books then, I have a few books by Russian authors, and French.....not sure if you have ever read Germinal by Émile Zola:D

    I am a bookaholic!!

I love reading, but have never gone for anything other than light reading. Don't think i could ever tackle the likes of war and peace or crime and punishment. Admire anyone who does.

Chic-lit and James Patterson stuff are about my level. But hey at least i read. OH thinks it's exceedingly boring, but i'd so rather be doing that, than watching his mega boring newsnight and question time for the half an hour i read before going to sleep.

Currently gone back to aJames Patterson one "when the wind blows".
But think i may have to try the True blood ones.

When I went to give T his dinner tonight he didnt want it. Not sure if I timed it wrong or whether he wasnt keen on my veg and lentil hot pot, doh!! Anyway, eventually I ended up giving him a BF as he was getting all het up. Ooh before he got het up though I gave him a piece of pear to hold but he wouldnt hold it so I put it to his mouth and he sucked on it, cute!! Not sure if he thought milk was gonna come out of it, lol!!

So anyway, in my head it means he has missed dinner tonight. Plus I am not sure if I would have enough milk to satisfy him for dinner and last feed as he has been having food for dinner for a good few weeks now so I figured my supply would have reduced. He took quite a lot of milk before going to bed, but I guess I am thinking he is bound to wake up more due to no food tonight!! Hope not!!

Boo, he might surprise you... At this age they can skip meals without noticing and I'm sure he's had as much milk as he needs from you... He woudln't have settled and gone to sleep if he was hungry :)
