Yeay for new thread. Apolologies if my typing is awful but it's early am on the iPod and am holding a very squiggly baby lol.
Krystal - am pleased at this stage to hear nephew doesn't have to have his arm amputated like you say hopefully that's a positive sign, still sending lots of healing vibes tho.
Kindof - sorry you had a pants night yesterday, hope last night was better fir you x lush pic of E too, Tahlie likes to sleep in a similar position.
SM - am 33 and still haven't figured out what I want to do with my self. Tho ATM am content just being a mummy but will no doubt soon after I return to work in jan get the itch do something more. Have had in the past some varied jobs and enjoyed most of them at some point, my issue is I seem to get bored of them after a few years especially if there's no progression. Five years ago I took a step down to concentrate on having a baby instead of being soley focused on work, it's hard not being in a position of responsbility cos I see so much I'd like to have an influence over but it's about wot suits me at this time. As others have said, for me it's about earning money and paying bills now.
On the sleeping thing, Tahlie loves to sleep on me and given a choice likes to sleep on her side too.
weezl - T has lots of dirty nappies atm and is only 3 days older than K, tho things seem to have started to slow down the last few days and we're getting more wet than dirty now. I change her before every feed but leave her till 20 min after her feed if sh goes during as she seems to puke otherwise! Other than that I change as soon as I know she needs it cos she generally doesn't like being dirty/wet.
Well HV came yesterday and weighed T she gained a huge 11oz in one week! so that puts her at 9lb13oz so 50 th gentile, she also is 54cm which is 25th centile. Hv happy so has discharged us from core care so can go to clinic now as and when I want. She also talked about me donating milk as am producing so much! does any one else do this and how does it work? I know she said I'd have to have a blood test and am fine with that. Also T's spots seem to be clearing but she has a really dry face so hv suggested aquious cream so bought some to try, she told me to put it on and then wash off tho! Does that sound right?Baby :female: Tahlie Lois born 15/3/10 7lb 12 oz :heartpulsWorking on baby no2

on their side they can curl up into the foetal positionMy_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »LOL - because every baby favours the foetal position!!!
There is no such thing as a 'natural' or 'unnatural' postion for a baby to be in - every baby is completely different.Sami – Not sure where you read that it’s not natural for a baby to sleep on his/her back. I guess if you look hard enough, you can probably find information for and against different theories. I googled “natural sleeping position baby” and came up with this link which says the most natural position is on their backs for co-sleeping. Not saying I agree that it is correct, just that there is information to support that.
I agree MFD, I don't think there is a natural or unnatural way for a baby to sleep.
The current medical advice is for babies to sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS. Personally I follow that.
I only objected to the claim that this was 'unnatural' with no actual evidence to back it up.
You are right Fitz, I could google and find 'evidence' of Elvis being alive and working at McDonalds.
Som: there is someone who donates milk, I think maybe Krystal has. I'm fairly certain ferlibeele (thats wrong!) has too.0 -
morning, have finally given up on attempting to sleep in hope that maybe if we "get up", he'll have a nap in an hour or so. Was hoping yesterday's jabs wouldn't have much effect, but after feeding at 2:30, he pretty much flatly refused to go back to sleep! Thank God no more til 1 year!
Som, no idea about the cream. We were just told to use olive oil!

Morning all
Jennynoo, I think nuts are a big no-no (even as powder due to the small allergy risk? let alone choking). We gave E nearly anything that was practical to hold in his hand though, getting braver with really messy things as time went on. Lots of things can be cut into vaguely finger-shapes for them to clutch and at nom on/lick/gum.0 -
Are there any foods you shouldn't give to start with, ie. my HV said not to give grapes as she has seen lots of babies choke on them. And what about nuts? Is there a minimum size? Erin keeps trying to get my muesli in the morning should I let her try some?
I didn't give Charlotte nuts until she had back teeth and could chew them. I think "they" say you are not supposed to give nuts until 5, but there is no history of nut allergies in our family and she can manage to chew them, so I don't see the harm in her having them as a toddler.
I used to give Charlotte anything she could hold an gum on - sliced fruit and veg, bread products - garlic bread, naan, bread sticks etc., cheese straws.
I don't think you need to worry too much about nutrition at first as they still get everything they need from the milk. It's sensible to introduce foods you want her to eat at meals, so she gets used to your diet and meal routines, and it makes life easier when they are toddlers and beyond.
Babies have no concept of the dislike of foods, unless they really don't like something. Toddlers learn to dislike foods, so if you suddenly introduce brocolli to a toddler, they'll think it's strange and will be reluctant try it. Much the same as if we went on holiday and were offered something like sheeps eyeballs. Even though it might be a perfectly normal dish in the country you've visited, you'd still turn your nose up as it's something strange. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Just talking to myself here! Oh well, nothing new!
I haven't found a good guide to BLT online so if anyone can direct me to one I would appreciate it. Susan, can I have the link to your website again please? I have a few questions if anyone feels like answering at a more reasonable hour.

Obviously I should avoid salt and too much sugar, anything else?
Do you avoid using a spoon? Erin quite likes to chew hers on the few occasions we have given her a spoon.
We had pasta and banana tonight, I don't think I'm providing a healthy menu but does that matter at this stage?
Thanks for any answers
I have always given K a spoon to 'use' while eating, he mostly used his fingers but it is good to get them used to it being on the plate. No nuts as they are a big choling hazard (and allergies of course) I gave grapes when K was about 6mths old but had to cut them in half/quarters as he would gag if they were too big.......same with little tangerine oranges, used to peel and chop all the segments in half!!
As for healthy menu, I don't think for babies it is neccesary to provide a full balanced meal at every mealtime, but as long as they get the variety over the day...so pasta and banana at one meal, maybe some cooked veg/potato chunks and yoghurt at the next meal.....tbh I always just gave a similar menu to us, so cereal for breakfast would be shreddies/bran flakes/or other cereals that didn't 'need' a spoon and could easily be picked up, then sandwich, breadsticks, fruit, cheese, chedders, ritz, wotsits, kind of variety at lunch (obviously not all on the same day) and then for dinner it would be the same as us.....or if we were having something like curry/bolognese/stew then I would just do k some boiled potato/oven chips with a variety of veg and teeny bits of chicken chunks:)
Not sure if any of that ramble helps.....only on briefly while K is eating his toast.
He had a terrible night last night, he was so blocked up and couldn't breathe, when he woke up he had a huge thick green snot running down to his chin_pale_. Need to pack when dh gets his bum out of bed...he is sorting out the car and then shopping, I am sorting the packing.... I am so excited about this little holiday and I think it will do dh the world of good too.....well as long as he doesn't start locking himself away in the bedroom in the lodge:cool:
Oh and yay we can turn the new fridge on today....had to leave it to stand for 24hrs, which I don't usually bother doing when we have just moved them ourselves, but I have no idea how shook up this has been so thought it best:p Hope it flaming works.
Right K finished his toast best get his stroppy bum out the chair:p
hope everyone has a good week and I will 'see' you all when I get back...although I did have a bizarre dream that I went and visited caz last night:D

Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
Morning all, long time no "see" lol
I'm good, just been busy with RL. Alfie is great still sleeping from 8pm til 4am-ish so that is fab!
Get well vibes for Krystal's nephew
Yey for rocking, shoe-removing, toothy and generally clever babies!
Have read back a few pages but didn't make any notes!
SM I am 25 and have a succession of pants jobs and a couple of periods of temping so far. My current job I got through temping and have been there 3 years in August. I applied and had places for uni twice (at 18 and at 19) but didn;t end up going as firstly I changed my mind abut wanting to do Chemistry (but now wished I had done that) and then after a year of deciding to do business studies I didn't take that place as I was working as a team leader for Ann Summers with a team of 15 girls, doing well, enjoying it and wondering what else someone could tell me about running a business (naive!!)
I would love to not go back to work in January but will have to for 3 months at least as I am getting extra maternity pay that I'd have to repay otherwise.
I have no idea what I want to do long term. I'd love to be a SAHM but don't know if we can afford it. Don't know what I'd do when the kids were at school though.
Sorry that's probably not much help!0 -

thought i would get a little lie in this morning but no such luck! need to get dressed and pick my sister up.
My lot eat anything really except raisins! breakfast and dinners they eat the same as us and lunches are usually whatever is in. If i make soup i usually break bread into the little pieces and then they can still eat it themselves! What's for you won't go past you0 -
Morning all,
Jenny - the current advice on nuts is that you can give them to child over 6 months if no history of allergies, but they should be grated/flaked or something due to the risk of choking. I gave Holly a lick of my peanut butter sandwich a couple of weeks ago (then she developed a cough and I sat crapping myself all night wondering whether to confess to husband!!). She was fine though.
We are watching Spongebob Squarepants just now after breakfast. She slept quite well last night, not waking for dummy until about 5am, then straight back to sleep.
Forgot to say, the other night we were at MILs for dinner and Holly was trying to eat the remote control as usual. Next minute she had blood pouring from her lip! She must have bit her lip with her new teeth as she's not used to them, poor thing. I did wonder how long it would be before she bit her lip once they came in.0 -
