  • SM- maybe think about what it is that appeals to you about the jobs that you would like to do.....so for example hairdressing. What is it that appeals? Is it the creativity, the chatting with clients, the variety of tasks in a day etc, etc. Then do the same for being a masseuse, and then any other jobs that appeal. This might help you understand what kind of thing you would like to do, particularly if the same themes come up a lot.

Krystal- sending positive vibes to your nephew.

csh id like to think i think positive but i know i dont im always waiting for the next bad thing to happen because it always does ....

maybe you could rub of on me :) x

Its not all about just thinking something bad will happen. When people are negative they are negative in almost every aspect. Even little things but they don't see it.

I think you are quite negative if I'm honest and the day you realise it and change it will be the day you're life changes forever.
You are LESS negative than you used to be since you started going to meets and things but I don't think you've had a lightbulb moment yet.
LOL that sounds totally self help bookish but it really is true!

just another thought before wandering off to bed - have you/Philip thought about/tried temping? I waitressed throughout uni, therefore brining no decent "career" skills to my CV, so when I was finishing up my Master's, I signed up with a temp agency to get some office skills to better my chance at a permanent, full-time job when I finished. After almost a year of miscellaneous jobs with the agency, I finally got a lovely long-term placement with DEFRA that I directly credit with landing me my current job with another gov't agency. So while I started out doing crappy 1-day-here-1-day-there jobs for the agency, I quickly got better and better placements as I proved myself to them. I also personally know of 2 other people that have gotten their first full-time, permanent jobs via temping as well. It really can be a good pathway for a) getting solid experience under your belt; b) making contacts. So while waitressing paid the bills well, it was temping that ultimately led to a full-time job with great benefits :).

If I could do one thing for you SM it would be to stop you thinking like this.

Setbacks happen to all of us. They really do. But the trick is never to let them rule your life.

If you move forward and do stuff and move your life on then something bad happens and it puts you back one step...but you are still further on than you were.

If you sit waiting for the crap to happen and don't move forward then you just go back and back without going forward.

    Does that make any sense?

Career - I decided I was going to be a solicitor when I was 7. I blindly lived my life working towards that (quite often only doing what was required to get by :o) doing A levels, University, Law School and starting to train.

I hated it :o every moment. It was nothing that I wanted it to be and quite frankly the whole thing made me sick.

So I ran away and went to work in Benefits. I hated that too. I spent far too much time dealing with cheats and liars and not enough time dealing with the people who the system was created to help.

So I ran away again and temped for £5 an hour.

I fell lucky going for an Admin position for a man with some inspiration who was looking for someone to make themselves indispensible in a role that didn't exist... Within 3 years I had doubled my wage, been promoted and had an Assistant and 4 years later I am about to embark on a career as a consultant.

I had to do some pigs of jobs to find something that was right.
