Aww, MFD, Hugs for you and hubby.
Don't google. Let us google and select the useful info for you.
Has it come on suddenly, or has he been moaning for a while?
(And I think we're all guilty of thinking they're being dramatic at times)
He had Monday off work last week with a cold. Then went to work on Tuesday and was completely zonked in the evening, then he has been unusually tired, managed to go out on the lash on Friday *rolleyes* and then has moaned all weekend, getting worse and more moany as time went on.
He was in bed by 10.30pm last night which is SO unlike him.MFD if he walked into the hospital by himself chances are excellent that it is something else or that he will be eminently and speedily treatable.
Numbness, tingling and the weird rubber legs feeling are all very early stage symptoms. It's going to suck for him because he'll probably have a lumbar puncture and a couple of other invasive and nasty tests but it sounds like they have him very early. Try not to worry xxx
Edit: You have my phone number if you need anything (even just reassuring medical type noises - we work with rehabilitation patients sometimes so I'm a bit familiar with the progression), but I'll be incommunicado between 3 and 5 your time.
Thank you so much SS.
Yup - rubber legs was a term he used....along with dizzy spells as we went around Sainsburys yesterday - do you think my 'it's a good job you are pushing the trolley then' comment was helpful :rotfl::rotfl:
It was then that his arms started and then I made him go to the party with me and laughed when he said standing up for a couple of hours had worn him out

Oh no MFD, that's a bit scary
...! At least you pushed him to the docs, even if you didn't think it was anything much. GB syndrome is not great - hope it turns out to be a scare and not the real thing, or that it's been caught early. Fingers crossed. Please keep us updated when you aren't too busy

I'm glad he's gone to emergency MFD. Quite often GBS turns up after a viral infection, it seems that some viruses have a similar structure to the protective sheaths around the nerves and and the body can get confused with what it's supposed to be fighting. But it sounds like he's not doing too badly if he's still able to walk around.

I am supposed to be in Warrington all day tomorrow training 80+ site operatives in standards of behaviour and values and I really need to prepare - why oh why do these things not happen at a better time?
I feel quite calm for now, have texted hubby to ask if he wants me to go and hold his hand.please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

I do know a little bit about it but only a little, I shan't expose you to my dangerous almost-knowledge - SS clearly knows her stuff
I do believe that the majority of cases make a full recovery though, it can just be a period of frustrating weeks and involve physio type stuff as after-care I think. Like SS said, the fact that it's early symptoms you've identified should mean that even if it IS a correct diagnosis it never reaches the most serious stages.
Good luck!
Re constipation etc, gentle tummy rubbing in the approved way, and bicycling their legs, can help. The drop-of-diluted-OJ definitely does work too but not sure from what age it's encouraged, probably not as young as 6 weeks... (this advice is for Fishfinger not for MFD to apply to OH (although she may if she wishes, obviously)).0
