Hello again everyone. I introduced myself 7 weeks ago when Thomas was first born but have barely had a spare minute to come on here. I have been missing my online chats so have been making the effort to get my butt off the sofa (daytime tv is frighteningly addictive!!) and start doing my feeds upstairs on the pc.
We're doing really well and I love being a mummy, but we've been having a few sleep issues of late. Bit of a shock to the system as T used to fall asleep in my arms after his 10am feed then sleep until 7.30 with a night feed at 4am ish. Now he seems to be really wideawake until 1am, then wakes at 6. I've started doing his last feed in the bedroom with only his night light on to recreate night time but it doesnt seem to make any difference. Any advice?
Hi Gill - this may sound a bit strange but it sounds like you are getting near the 'sorting out a normal sleeptime' stage. Babies need lots of sleep and if you miss the right time to put them down then (IMHO) you end up with a wide awake baby on your hands who struggles to settle.
Is there a time in the evening when T has a natural lull? Say 7 or 8pm or something? Maybe if you start trying to put him down then you will find that he has a wake for a feed in the late evening and then will go a little longer in the night.
I started trying different times for settling Benjamin down from about 7 weeks and by 12 weeks we had settled into an early bedtime and him staying in his own cot all night other than for a feed or 2.
Different people think different things but personally I think that the sooner you can settle them into a 'normal' baby/child sleeping pattern the better. For example, when he is 5 and going to school you will want him in bed for (say) 8pm and you would like him to stay there until (say) 7am - why not try something similar now?
All just suggestions!! But staying up to 1am suggests that he is over tired to me.
Good luck xxplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

I know he understands but is choosing to ignore me, as he will follow the instructions sometimes!!
just popped in to ask a quick question.....What did you all do for Christenings/Baptisms/Naming ceremonies...in terms of afterwards? Did you go home, invite everyone back home, book a venue, have a party at a pub, lay on kiddie entertainment etc, etc,
Will try and check back soon for replies, need to find out what the hell this rank smell is that has been bugging me:(
we've got a small room at the local cricket club. was going to have everyone at ours but have decided to make a big thing of Kian's christening and have a big party
i think MIL is sorting a childrens entertainer as well but i'm leaving that to her to sort. am doing the food ourselves but have a list already of the food and a rough estimate of cost. am off to see balloon people on sat to get a quote for a few displays.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -

No idea if this is useful, Jillie, but when we were getting a balloon for my friend's Hen we discovered that Matalan do really good value balloon displays. You obviously have to pick them up yourselves, but useful if you want something on a budget.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0

Gill - I agree with MFD about finding the right window, even now I can miss it resulting in a wide awake but grumpy/overtired baby! I would say as soon as LO starts rubbing his eyes or yawning get him down - try to make sure you've done bath and feed before he gets to this stage though!
I am (now) a firm believer in routines!I am not a routine person and until I returned to work 4 weeks ago it wasn't a problem but now that I can't catch up on sleep and I actually have to be functioning during the day (driving, working, training etc) I needed to get the routine back on track. We come in, Jack has some food, then play time, then up for a bath at 7pm, take him in the spare room which is nice and dark to get ready for bed (I can't risk putting him on the changing unit ) then into his room, bottle and bed. Even tonight it took a good 15 mins for him to drop off and I had to go in 4 times because he was crying but I didn't look at him or talk to him, just quick cuddle, lay him back down, blankets on and leave. He's starting to get the message.
oops that turned out to be longer than expected.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Cos he would chuck himself off the side!
Getting him dressed and bum changes is a absolute nightmare - he crawls off the minute the nappy's off regardless of whether I've wiped him and when I'm putting his clothes on he rolls over mid change, sits up and throws himself backwards. At least on the double bed I have plenty of room to manovure him about, it's easier for me to catch him and it's not as far to fall if he ever did.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

) But she can't sit and eat a whole sandwich.
I think she is very much aware of what she likes, and she is sticking to that, she can't eat much at a time. So I'll maybe put half an egg sandwich in her lunch box, a banana and a yoghurt.0
