ooh good point
we looked at one a while back but for us storing it when not in use is a problem. IIRC they aren't massively expensive.
We actually think they cheapest option is adding Hubby to FIL's insurance for the week and borrowing his car (volvo estate) as he leaves it at home and gets the train to Edin
Which puts the wear and tear on someone elses car
I thought your car had a reasonable sized boot?
I am guessing that you have considered the train? With a family rail card it might be reasonable.please listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

I won't even consider the train, luggage, pram, crawly baby, hyper toddler  sounds like hell to me :rotfl:My_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »Which puts the wear and tear on someone elses car

Our car is great for day to day but all 4 of us plus pram and luggage leave little room for comfort on a long journey it is do-able I think really we just want to test drive a bigger car

well I was all set for hiring a zafira, but then my M and D got in touch with a local independant baby shop and hired a travel cot (fergie) moses basket (kes) highchair and double buggy for the week for only £25 so we managed to get away with just our own little corsa for the week.Hiya!
:D
I lurked on the shirl whirl thread the other night because I missed you
while you are here though, can you tell me about hiring a car for holidays pretty please? how much did you find it for and what car did you get etc we're going to edingburgh in a couple of weeks.
Have you been to the consultant about Fergie's poops yet? you did get referred didn't you
I'm taking Ed to the gp about his poops too
is Fergie mobile now?
Zafira would have been £265 for the time period we wanted effectively 9 days so we weren't dropping off on a sunday.
I didn't do super duper martin style shoppy around tho, cos my mum found that great deal first!
Can you hire any of the big stuff in Edinburgh?
poo wise- we're doing much better! Movicol really suits fergie, and no more bleeding YAY! she thought he was probably tearing about twice a week before
Has ed tried lactulose? Push for movicol instead if you ca, as lactulose is foul even diluted!

Fergie's lovely. The HV is rather worried about his development though and has talked about referral to SALT due to lack of words/comprehension.
So that's sad
Don't feel pressured into it if you feel he is fine. I hate the way HV's etc get you wound up thinking things are a problem because they have a quota to fill or have just been on a recent training course about a certain problem.. they get overzealous and 'diagnose' everyone.. which means the children who do need the facilities often have to wait 3 times as long while all the unnecessary cases are dealt with first.
My grandbrat is about a month older and says maybe 4-5 words.. and they are not clear.
Does he understand when you ask him to do something.. pass his shoes for example?
If he chatters away to himself while playing he is probably fine
They develop at different rates and he may just be learning other stuff first.. like walking and kicking a ball and jumping..
Moomin did not say a word until one month before she was 3.. she had been out for the day and came home and was suddenly able to talk.. she has barely shut up since!
It would make more sense to have his hearing checked before jumping the gun and referring straight to SALT.. he may have glue ear which is more common in boys and also intermittent. All 3 of my boys and 1 of my girls had it.. though it was outgrown before they were about 8. I refused grommits too as they are thought to be useless in the majority of cases.
I would suggest leaving him until he is about 2.5 before even thinking about lack of speech being an issue.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
hmm I just called Chris a toddler, he doesn't exactly toddle anymore so what is he? 'just' a child/boy? I look at him now and I see such a grown up little man!
I don't want him to grow up!!
Ps. This made me chuckle! http://childwild.com/2007/08/29/nursing-problems-i-never-thought-wed-have/#comments0 -
A pre-schooler Sami?
Although with your record he may never make it to school because you will put off signing him up
Any further on with his nursery place?

oh £265 is cheaper than the quick look we did for 7days worth but I'm pretty sure FILs insurance will be around £100-150 so obviously cheaper, only big thing we're taking is the pram, I think. Tf we can fit it in we'll take the travel cot because ours is a posh one that's IMO much better than the cheap ones you get in hotels.

Ed hasn't been prescribed anything as yet, 1st app is on monday. I've been trying to cope with it myself but nothing seems to work and its got to the stage where he goes up to 3 times a day but what comes out is tiny, hard and painful
I can see little lesions on his botty that are obviously not getting to heal as he no longer manages to get it all out in one go then have a break.
When you say lactulose is foul do you mean the effects or that you had trouble getting F to take it? I'm trying prunes in pear juice whizzed up at the mo but he barely eats any (and I don't blame him it tastes gross)0 -

he may not make it to nursery but he's already signed up for school, see I did do something
I have attendance cards for both boys that we have to get signed to prove we are regular church goers so they can get in. I should ring the school and check they got our form tho! :eek:imagine if they didn't get it!! I was so lazy and posted it even though I drive past the school like 20 times a week! 0 -

Will the insurance really be that much? Have you looked into it?
I put my Mum on my insurance for a week a couple of years ago, she was looking after my children, so the least I could do was to let her have my car.
I'm almost certain it only cost us £20-30, certainly no more than £40.
Hi Weezl We miss you.

Hello lovely Weezl!
S only says mumma, dadda, nanna and kitty, although he does manage something suspiciously like thank you when you bless him when he sneezes, and although mumma dadda and nanna are all aimed at the right people they are still just babble words really! And my IRL friend who's LO is two weeks younger than S hasnt said anything except babababa and only took his first steps last week. They are all so, so different. I think HV's jump a bit too fast on parents and children when they arent conforming to their Rules because they dont want to get in strife for not spotting there is a problem IYSWIM? I am very glad I avoid them
Thank you all for your experiences of weddings the other night as well, much appreciated ladies
