Beenie is missing in action, Caz is too - I hope they are ok :(

Can I ask your opinions please. Now D is getting more mobile we have been discussing home safety. I think that it is not worth covering corners of tables etc as the covers are easily pulled off and D should never be left unattended. I know there is a chance he could bang his head but I feel he has to learn how to be careful..... DH is horrified by this... am I really lax? :(

K is pulling up, standing and starting to cruise about too. I'll be getting a stairgate for the bottom of the stairs after fishing him off the second stair yesterday but thats about it.
Hes constantly bumping into things but hes definately learning from the bumps. He used to randomly just charge about but now hes getting more careful after having a good few eggs on the head. If he knows hes gonna fall and I can't get to him in time, I can see him brace himself for the impact so he knows its coming.
When he started pulling himself up all the time and just letting go and falling either face first or flat on his back I started pulling him down to sitting position from standing so now when he is standing and wants to go away he sits himself down, turns round and crawls away!

I was saying to MIL yetserday, I hate this stage cos they are unsteady on their feet and don't know their limitations and hes had a few crackers when hes fell backwards from standing, I think he'll be a lot safer when hes actually walking than he is now!!

MSE very slow for me too

I bought corner covers from Ikea that are little hands and they haven't come off at all. I have only stuck them to 'sharp' corners (the ones that could have his eye out ;)) and I didn't do the dining table (which is what he walks into most frequently LOL) but IMHO they have been well worth it....and I have a reputation for being a lax mummy!

Other than that I have a fireguard and that is it. I agree that they need to learn - and I believe that part of that is giving them the freedom to learn.

Benjamin was an early crawler, stander and cruiser too - although he wasn't so quick to walk because he got around too quickly on his knees and could climb onto anything in a second!

Bless them - they grow up so quickly!

Thank you. I was only looking at those hands at the weekend. We have a log fire here but as we only use it in the winter I will look at guards closer to the time.

Thanks Jillie and MFD. Will try her with moo milk tomorrow - I'll just make sure no one comes on tonight with horror stories of babies starting mooing cos they had it too early :rotfl:

Hammy - I'm with you apart from our marble hearth which I cover with cusions. Everything else shouldn't cause her too much damage - she head butted the wall tonight from her cot (lowering it at weekend) and didn't seem to bother (it wasn't too hard - just a bump) so will just see how she goes with tables etc.

    xxx

That made me spit my wine out :rotfl:

Hmm, we have got a very large stone hearth but then we have a huge amount of stone all around - we live in a country cottage so he can't get away from it :rotfl:. We need to lower the cot too. I caught D trying to climb out earlier

I agree about the locks on cleaning cupboards. I am currently thinking that we will def get a stair gate at the top of the stairs but I am in 2 minds about the bottom. He is obviously some way away from climbing stairs but as soon as he is capable I would hope I could teach him how to come down stairs safely too. Hmm, I have no idea if this is realistic though. HELP!

The trouble I found with Caitlyn was as soon as I tried teaching her to come down the stairs she just started climbing back up again, it wasn't until we were on holiday and there was just 1 step to the bedrooms that she learnt to climb down backwards...

She then applied the same logic to the sofa and is now happily climbing up and down... Although she managed to throw herself off it headfirst today and has a lovely bruise in the middle of her forehead...

Also, I'm glad she can't get upstairs on her own because I'm sick of following her round the three downstairs rooms putting things back where they're supposed to be, it would drive me to distraction if I had to do it upstairs too...

As far as corner protectors go, I put 1 on the corner of my coffee table which was face height for a very long time and she fell onto it and cut all her gum open before the corner cushion was there... Apart from that there's no other corners that really need protecting...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I did too, apparently not!! The only reason he can't climb on the sofa is he can't get his leg high enough! He makes a ruddy good try tho! My laptop was sitting on the arm of the couch and I went 10 ft away to pick his jacket up, turned back and he'd grabbed the laptop and was banging both hands off the keyboard, which is obviously what I do or so he thinks!!

I also lowered his cot to the very bottom the other day as he was trying to escape!

I do feel a bit shortchanged with his babyhood as hes such an independant wee soul. He was only 8 mths last Tuesday and I would have liked him to at least try to pretend to be a baby for a while longer! :o

JAM - My friends LO is on moo milk (week older than C) - no problems.

Hammy - I have a stairgate at the top of the stairs, that's it. He's never in the room alone and if I go in the kitchen he just follows me. He tries going near the fireplace but like JAM I have covered the marble hearth with cushions and throws so he actually has to climb to get to the fireplace so he gets bored easily. He has learnt to open the door to the hallway and kitchen because they are half doors which fold in the middle so he just pushes them open but he knows it's naughty *rollseyes*

Whenever he gets interested in something naughty I just distract him and now I just shout his name and look at him and he comes away from things he's not supposed to.

Like CSH, I taught J to fall on his bum instead of his back and like K he braces himself for the impact now. Today he managed to stand for about 10 sec without holding on

My house is generally a tip (no matter how much I try to keep on top of it) and Jack's favourite toys are the hoover, the hairdryer and more recently the toilet :o
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?

I feel exactly like that. D will be 7 months on Thursday but it looks like my baby has gone. I know it is silly but he sounds a lot like K and I am nodding my head thinking, yes, short changed is exactly how I am feeling :o

I've just done an absolutely massive catch-up - i've not been on since the start of the football last night!!

Well done Gisi You should be very proud of yourself. :T

Hammy Sorry to say this, but climbing the stairs came months before V started to walk. She knows to get down backwards now after lots of practise on the two steps into/out of the house, but I use a moveable stairgate just so I don't have to keep running upstairs to see what she's up to every ten minutes.
Your OH is being a big girl! How are they supposed to learn not to bump into tables until they know that it hurts?

"The" wedding chat - I'm another strange one I think. I was determined not to have children at my wedding (with ex, in the days before we had our own). That is probably one of the main reasons why the wedding never went ahead, the first mention of us not wanting kids there started big wars within the families! :o
If we were to have a big wedding now, my children would obviously be there, and my closest cousins two little ones. Thankfully, there are no more under 13's in the families so not a problem. (Over 13's are ok and welcome to come) Other than that, I wouldn't invite any other children. I might tell my best RL friend she can bring them if she wants, but i'm 99% certain she wouldn't want too.
I just don't think wedding evening do's are the right place for children, they just get bored and annoying! I'm also 'funny' about little ones in restaurants/pubs/beer gardens after a certain time of night.

BUT as everyone has said, it's the people who's wedding it is that have the final say - if you don't like it, don't go. :p

CSH - I think that is a bit pathetic not to invite a 14 year old! It's not like she's going to be screeching through the ceremony, poking the cake and doing knee skids across the dancefloor! :rotfl:

Just changing the subject, is this way too good to be true?

Probably! I read something recently on here, possibly the Ebay forum. It said that GHD's are one of the most popular 'fake' items available on ebay. You could be cheeky and email them and ask for the serial number - GHD will tell you whether it's a genuine serial number or not if you email them.

I'm sure I had more to say......

I'm bored with football already! :(

If you put him on the stairs now he would probably climb them - it is much closer to crawling than walking!!

Stairgates are too much of a PITA for me to bother with them :o I am not sure when we would ever use one either...we are upstairs if we are in bed and downstairs if we are awake (and I keep the living room door closed).
