I'd like to nominate HOPE worldwide (reg. 1045930). https://www.hopeworldwide.org.uk
HOPE worldwide is a small charity working in the UK in the areas of drug addiction, homelessness and mentoring. Despite being affiliated to an international charity. the work of the UK charity is focussed here.
The causes that the charity works with tend not to be the most popular (and consequently it is harder to get funding for) but nevertheless have a tremendous impact on changing lives, reducing re-offending and helping society to be more cohesive. Volunteers provide emergency accommodation for homeless people and act as mentors to disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Most of the addicts on the drug programme have been in prison and recovery helps them to play a part in contributing to society (many become volunteers or drug workers themselves).0 -
I would like to nominate the Parkinson's Disease Society https://www.parkinsons.org.uk Registered charity No 258197 as a recipient of funds from your website. More specifically, if possible, the local Southampton Branch, who are trying to raise sufficient funds to employ a Community Support Worker to assist the Parkinson's Disease Nurse [currently being funded by the P.D. Society]. It is a sad reflection of our society that charities have to assist the NHS with funding to employ Specialist nurses who should be available to the population of this country through the NHS.
The Parkinsons Disease Society main aim is to fund research into a cure for Parkinson's Disease, management of the condition, improved diagnosis and improved drug treatment.
Many thanks:A0 -
I'd like to nominate Macmillan Cancer Support, https://www.macmillan.org.uk.
Macmillan aims to improve the lives of people living with cancer
Over the last two years Macmillan's Better Deal Campaign has been campaigning about the financial difficulties often faced by people who have cancer, particularly those of working age who often have to give up work and find their income drops at a time when costs increase - eg travel to and parking at hospitals, prescription charges, extra heating, special diets etc.
A big success has been getting Ken Livingstone to agree that people going for treatment at hospitals in London don't have to pay for prescription charges.
Macmillan also provides a benefits helpline which helps people with cancer apply for the benefits to which they are entitled, filling in forms and undertaking appeals where necessary. But it's permanently in demand and urgently needs more money to be able to expand.0 -

I'd like to nominate Shooting Stars reg number:
Registered in England No. 4383311
Registered Charity No. 1047916
They are a childrens hospice that care for terminally ill children, I've been to some fundrasers and they do an incredible job under immense pressure and no government help.
It takes 2.3 million to run it, and I must say, the attitude of the children there is amazing

Thanks for highlighting GBSS as a worthy charity. My daughter was stillborn as a result of a GBS infection. Had I known about GBS and been screened, her life could have so easily been saved. GBSS are campaigning to improve public awareness of GBS and are trying to get the government to change healthcare policy with respect to routine screening. Saving babies lives is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT0

I would like to nominate PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Pasly) - my mum died of this horrible disease 6 years ago this month at just the tender age of 64 - the eve of her 45th wedding anniversary. It kills the brain stem and is so rare, there is little known about it - we aren't even sure if it is a hereditory disease. It's like a cross between Parkinson's/Motor Neurone/Alzheimers only worse.
The web site is https://www.pspeur.org
Thank you for listening:beer:0 -
What a great idea - i would like to nominate Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay. https://www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk my family were lucky to be able to have the support of Rowcroft for the last few days of my father's life. They gave him dignity during a very difficult time and i will always be grateful to them all.
Rowcroft provides invaluable support and care to people in South Devon suffering from a life limiting illness, ranging from cancer to Motor Neurone Disease.
Every year they support and care for over 1000 patients and their families, both in the hospice itself, the day centre and in the community. All their services are totally free of charge.
They are a registered charity, and with only one third of their funding coming from the National Health Service they need to fundraise for the remainder. Funds come from legacies, charity shops and the generosity of supporters.0
