I would like to nominate The Anthony Pilcher Bone Cancer Trust
It raises money for research into bone cancer.
Anthony Pilcher was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 14. We had never heard of Osteosarcoma before his diagnosis and there appeared to be no research being carried out. As soon as Anthony knew how horrendous his treatment was going to be, he started raising money in the hope that other young people would not have to suffer in the same way. Following Anthony's death at the age of 15, we are carrying out his wish by getting research started into this and other bone cancers that mainly affect children and young adults.

:Aannebarby wrote:https://www.differentstrokes.co.uk
National charity supporting younger stroke survivors since 1996.
In the UK stroke is a major killer, comparable with cancer , heart and respiratory diseases, and it is the largest single cause of severe disability.
Stroke is commonly seen as an affliction of old age, yet it frequently strikes people in the prime of life, often for no known reason. In the UK, each year over 10,000 people of working age have a stroke - nearly 200 every week. Over 1000 of these are under the age of thirty - 450 of them are children.
Different Strokes provides practical information packs, a regional network of exercise classes and/or swimming sessions, benefits and rights information, advice and info on education, training and work opportunities, newsletters to keep members in touch with each other, an interactive website, access to counselling services, and a helpline to ensure a prompt and practical response to the problems which confront stroke survivors and their families.0 -
I too would like to nominate Chrons & Colitis. https://www.nacc.org.uk. I have suffered with ulcerative colitis for eight years, bowel disease is often considered an embarrasing problem and sufferers can spend most of their lives hiding it. Lets raise awareness and help people understand it's nothing to be ashamed of.0

I nominate the CFTrust...
They not only are working to find a (feasible) cure to Cystic Fibrosis (CF), they also help the families and guardians of CF.
The main reason I think this should be one of the charities sponsored is because CF is the UK's most common inherited disease that is life-threatening. Most people don't know that as because of cancer, CF isnt in the press as much. Also the CFTrust are the only UK Organisation dedicated to Cystic Fibrosis.

The British Epilepsy Association.
https://www.epilepsy.org.uk
This charity helps those who have been diagnosed with epilepsy and those affected by it. It is small in comparison to others, for every £1 raised by epilepsy action £82 is raised by Cancer research. People need to be educated about this and the affects it has on lives.0 -
I hope it's not too late for me to nominate the Laura Crane Trust https://www.lauracranetrust.org.
Laura attended the same sixth form college as me in Huddersfield before she died of a rare mixture of 4 cancers (explained far better on the website) about 3 years before I went there. As a college we always supported the charity and I have continued to support it 6/7 years later on.
The charity supports those in the 13 - 25 year age group. Cancer in this age group is less common than in children or in older adults, and therefore expertise in this area is less frequently found. For this reason, young cancer patients often have to receive their treatment some way away from their support network of family and friends at home, which can make them feel isolated at this particularly vulnerable time.
A support network of people who understand what you are going through, not only with your illness but with the usual preoccupations of this age group, is absolutely vital. The Laura Crane Trust is committed to helping create and maintain this kind of environment for as many young people as possible, to improve their lives while they are going through their treatment and in the aftermath of their illness.
In the whole of the UK and Southern Ireland, there are only 22 hospitals which treat adolescent cancer.
I hope you will consider Laura's trust to recieve a donation.0 -
I would like to nominate Cinnamon Trust https://www.cinnamon.org.uk. They help people with caring for their pets. Usual reasons for needing help are hospital stay, infirmity or frailty. They can find walkers for dogs, foster homes, or new homes if people can no longer keep their pets. Animals not rehomed are not put down unless medically necessary. :T0

I'd like to nominate Fibromyalgia Support N Ireland, https://www.fmsni.org.uk a small charity that helps sufferers of Fibromyalgia. We desperately need funding to help us help others, many of whom are refused benefits despite being disabled. We work tirelessly to raise funds and lend support and give hope to those who need help.
>>Fibromyalgia Syndrome is a chronic , often severe pain syndrome characterised by widespread musculoskeletal aches, pain and stiffness, soft tissue tenderness, general fatigue and sleep disturbances. Fibromyalgia patients experience a range of symptoms of varying intensities that wax and wane over time. Many suffer from depression mostly due to feeling isolated through lack of support.
Within Northern Ireland, it is estimated up to 3% of the population potentially suffer from the condition. <<
Thank you,

I would like to nominate Epilepsy Scotland. Email is https://www.epilepsyscotland.org.uk. Offers help, advice and information to Epilepsy sufferers.
Reason: Purely selfish really, my daughter (aged 16) was diagnosed with epilepsy a few years ago. She has the type that will not 'go away' and will always have it. Without the help of organisations like Epilepsy Scotland I would not have been able to obtain as much information, knowledge and help to aid my daughter. As I have had to give up work to be her full time carer, I am on a tight budget and cannot therefore donate money myself so would like you to consider this as one of your charities to receive a donation.0 -
I nominate the National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) - not well known but without them there would be lots of children having no contact with their non-resident parents. NACCC supports over 300 centres across the nation, picking up the pieces for families in conflict following separation and divorce. Most centres are run by volunteers. NACCC recently lost a huge amount of government funding and has had to cut back considerably - this impacts on its member centres very seriously. It's a difficult cause to win support for because no-one's dying - but if you've ever experienced the terrible pain of family breakdown you should know that children are the first to suffer - often very quietly - when parents can't easily agree on contact. Many parents lose contact with children and the consequences (for the children) are devastating. Some parents need support to provide protection for the children or just to give them somewhere to go and something to do. It's really hard for little charities right now - don't go with those big ones - support NACCC!0
