Going back to tumble driers, we have a gas powered one made by White Knight. It is much cheaper to run than an electricity powered one and it dries clothes much faster than any other drier I have used. Obviously you need a gas supply and it still plugs in to the electricity but the cost saving for us was noticable when we changed.

If you shut your curtains then it'll keep more heat in, and it's safer because burglars can't see what you've got.

  • for those with drafty windows have you tried the insulation strips on a roll that you can get for windows? it will stop dafts coming in and you can get them in a few colours, so you don't notice them on yor windowsill etc.

i would be all over the place LOL :)

btw I cannot get income support, but if i worked i would lose council tax benefit, free school meals, free prescriptions and dental treatement, and my kids would miss out not having me there to fetch them from school, there isnt another parent who could do that, or any relatives around here. I would be WORSE off - this from my own calculations and the woman in the DSS!

As i am not in a position to change the mortgage the best I can do at the moment is try to make the most of what I have (b*gger all!) and carry out some VERY creative thinking;)

I will stay put here for the time being, it would be too confusing to be all over the boards, I just want to save money! (and time);)

but surely sarah if you posted some of your problems on the relevant boards it would help you save money,

a relative of mine is a single parent, works part-time 10am - 2pm and still receives free prescriptions etc and she is better off, I'll ask her more about it this week, I know there are alternative benefits she receives because she works,

I'm no expert though but we do have them on this site, give them a chance to help

another tip would be to nearly dry your clothes on the airer, then finish them off in td. Also presumably you know that if you put a large dry towel in with stuff it dries everything quicker? Keep an old one for this purpose because it will get very thin over time ...

they would either have to be extremely tall burglars, be walking on stilts, or be using binoculars from the university buildings across the street.
