aussielle wrote:You'd have to check this out on the benefit board with Ted, but I thought you could earn up to £15 a week, without it affecting benefit, can't remember which benefit it was though..possibly income support
Hi
I am new to this board although nosing round for quite a while.
I work in benefits so if you claim income support as a lone parent you can earn up to £20pw without it being deducted- a good job would be to be self employed reg child minder cos there is not much that they wont allow you to earn. or in a pub (tips dont show on wage slips)
I dont know your cirumstances but are you claiming incapacity benefit and childrens tax credits.
Also you mentioned your ex has given up his job -is he claiming cos the csa can still deduct money from his benefit for you.
have you though about taking exchange students in in the school hols or even renting a room out- the local colleges and uni's could give you more info.
hope some of this helps.**angel*eyes**0 -
that sounds like some good advice
I still think sarah should try to seperate out her problems and post threads on relevant boards to maximise the help she could get from MSEI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. i would be all over the place LOL
btw I cannot get income support, but if i worked i would lose council tax benefit, free school meals, free prescriptions and dental treatement, and my kids would miss out not having me there to fetch them from school, there isnt another parent who could do that, or any relatives around here. I would be WORSE off - this from my own calculations and the woman in the DSS!
As i am not in a position to change the mortgage the best I can do at the moment is try to make the most of what I have (b*gger all!) and carry out some VERY creative thinking;)
I will stay put here for the time being, it would be too confusing to be all over the boards, I just want to save money! (and time);)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

even if the ex is on benefits the CSA can still take around £5 a week off him and pass it on to you. i don't know how long you'd have to wait for them to become involved though, they seem to give priority to the cases where the mother is on income support.52% tight0

He wont get jsa because he walked out of his job. Even if he got benefits i would get pennies because he has another child from a previous relationship. Someone said a while back really I should not rely on his money (when i WAS) getting it, but look on the csa money as a bonus. I would pass on that advice to ANYONE who is involved with the csa.
Anyone know how much a tumble drier costs to run, because i couldnt do without mine - or so I think. Cost may be an incentive to not use it much, but I hate the way clothes dried indoors on an airer are all stiff and crumpled, even when i hang them carefully.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

That might have been me at some point, my ex and yours must have been the same school of "dodging your responsibilities". I admire your efforts to provide for your children. I am at the far end of child raising, the university end... and I know it isn't easy, but I have and you will have one day, the satisfaction that I have done the right thing. Children don't always show their appreciation at the time but as they get older they realise who is the parent taking responsibility for their needs. Best wishes for the future and I hope you can get the mortgage sorted soon.0 -
sarah, you can get "A" rated tumble driers now, which are reasonably efficient, they still cost money to buy and run though.
Did you contact your mortgage lender to find out if you can get a repayment holidsy of a month or so ?If you can't say something nice - SHUT UP0
