Opened a santander current account last weekend and I've just had a capital one identity alert from equifax indicating a search was made against my equifax report

They may well have searched experian as well as indicated on the first page of this thread but I can't check my experian report

Couldn't say if it was a full or a soft search. I only have the free identity protection from capital one on equifax so only get alerts which say
    01/06/2012

    Searches New/Deleted
SANTANDER UK PLC , a Financial Services company, has made an inquiry against your credit report on 26/05/2012 . If you were not aware of or did not consent to this search, contact SANTANDER UK PLC or Equifax for clarification.

Further to my prior post YBS have now performed an unrecorded enquiry against our Experian credit files and uncovered my previous bankruptcy.

They're fine with this however, as long as I can send them proof of discharge showing I've been discharged for at least three years, which I have, so that's on its way to them.

Hope for us ex-banks yet then if a prime mortgage lender will happily provide a mortgage knowing about a prior bankruptcy :o

    Excellent thread!

Anyway. I have just applied for a car lease. The company uses Santander and I'm slightly worried.
My Equifax file is clean, two cards, a bank account and mobile all good, no late payments etc. Credit ratio is showing 45% but I have cleared this but as yet not showing.

Unfortunately I have a default showing within Experian for £250 with Clydesdale finance dated March 2007. This information is in fact incorrect, and even after sending letters to them and calling, now Barclay's partner finance, they are still dragging their heels so it still shows. After speaking to Barclay's they agree that the file should be removed but it's still there. This item isn't on other CRAs.

I am hoping that others may have applied for a car lease deal with a default and I'm wondering the outcome.

I do realise that other factors play when applying for credit but I feel that I may qualify with other information. E.g. home address over 5 years, bank account, 5 years plus, job £37k, no loans, debts etc. Just this niggle.

Sorry is this post is in the wrong section!

You can dispute the data directly with Equifax

    http://www.equifax.co.uk/ask

If they fail to respond, Equifax will remove the data anyway.

If they do respond to Equifax, but say the data should remain, you should raise a complaint via the Information Commissioner.

However, a single, settled (does it show settled?) default from over five years ago amidst an otherwise perfect credit file isn't likely to make that much difference.

My OH and I have had little trouble obtaining high street credit circa advertised rates with settled defaults of a similar age to yours :o

Thank you for a very quick response and useful information! The account does show settled. The information is held with Experian, I shall see if there is a help link with them!

I passed finance fine, I just need to show bank statements. Really happy. So to add to the list.

I went for a lease hire deal, no big deposit or balloon, for a KIA Sportage. They used ALD automotive finance, who seem to be the finance people for a lot of lease companies, they only checked my Experian file for identity and credit check.

British gas reports to callcredit. No other energy companies listed on here - is BG the only one who reports?
