I was shocked that they blatenty wasted the loan on nights out then complained about being broke. They had a better social life than me.
But like someone said it's too broad a thing to look at with a documentary of 2 people out of millions.
I bet they left out a lot of the nicer moments they had with their children to concentrate on where they wasted money. One day I might be more organised...........

Maybe I missed that bit. I thought she used a bit of the loan on a nite out...but not all of it0 -
They said she spent the loan on a night out.
When it comes down to it thats not what a loan is for.One day I might be more organised...........

Not surprising they showed the girls having a night out as the first thing the public will think is that their taxes are being frittered away and so starts another uproar. I like to give the benefit of the doubt. When I was on benefits I applied for a loan to decorate and by careful management managed to have some money left over, allowing me to attend a 30th birthday party held by one of my friends, my first night out in 4 years. I felt very guilty as I felt I should be spending it on the children but I was persuaded to go, even the oldest told me 'go and play with your friends mummy'. It did me the world of good and raised my spirits, as I was feeling very low and almost at the depressed stage. My night out lifted me out of the doom and helped me realise there is a world out there and I wanted to be part of it again as soon as I could.
I wouldn't begrudge anybody an occasional night out if it makes someone feel better within themselves. A happy mum makes for happy children.:p0 -
viktory wrote:Good on you, mandi. I respect you for that. As stated in one of my posts I have no problem with those that have no choice but to care for young childen, usually due to a disappearing ex.
I am sure that when the time is right you will go and get a job and become self supporting.
Hopefully when your ex qualifies as a plumber he will earn loads and give you and the children more!0 -
Bogof_Babe wrote:Well the socio-documentary on Ch4 was certainly more socio than documentary. I watched the first half but now that they are on to the grandmother's alcohol problems, it has ceased to relate to what we were led to believe was the general situation for single mums.
Too narrow a spectrum to be taken as any sort of definitive study.
Your right BOGF.. Why didnt they choose 2 completely different situations...( I know ) could it be that not all single parents are/ have been teenagers, who had an" accident."..???(Wouldnt be good viewing ).. and maybe if they had chosen someone in my situation, ( and other posters) the viewers may have taken a different perspective regarding lone parents.. Typical of C4..

It was the grandmother that made me laugh! At least her daughter knew the name of her babys father!

They definately should of chosen a few girls from different situations.
Me and most of my friends who are single young mums are nothing like this,
although i know a few girls who are like this.
Couldnt beleive how cold that girls flat was - the heaters are too expensive?? Well i would rather go without food for myself than let my house get that cold.
I do realise thought how lucky i am, my mum is the best in the world, and she has been wicked support for me and DS, i've had a few pants days lately but watching that made me realise how lucky i am to have my mum, that poor girls mother was vile- reminds me of my friends mum (wouldnt think twice about selling grandkids jewellery for drugs/alcahol - even stole my mates child benefit book before it all went throught the banks)
As far as people moaning coz they went out - we all need a break once in a while - but then they shouldnt spend it on a night out then plead poverty, i only go out if i can definately afford it. xx:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Pram-face was interesting, but sadly was what I expected. It gave the impression that all single mothers are young, which of course isn't true!!Also that sometimes its either abortion, or keep it, which isn't always true-there are other options available...
I thought it was very, very sad the lack of responsibility the babies Dads felt. It seemed that Liam, only showed his face when Ala got her social fund loan, he promptly bugg*red off when the cash had gone. She had a few nights out on the cash, bought herself and her two boys some clothes, decorated her flat and bought a new table, personally I would much rather she got her interest free loan from the social fund than approached the likes of Provident, which I used when I was on I.S. So what if the lass had a few nights out, I dont blame her, its not like she frittered the lot away. The person who really disgusted me was the sperm contributor-doesn't deserve the term Dad, £2.50 a week he contributed, a disgrace, that will just about pay for a couple of bags of spuds and a few pints of milk, disgusting!! Was really heartening to see Ala end the, "documentary" starting her first day at work, as she said, she was only £40 a week better off, but its a little start for her and her kids, and we all gotta start somewhere.Good on her, regardless of her blackpool donkey of a mother she was deterined to make the best of her situation for her, and her boys.RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.
