  • Just had a call from a guy who asked if I had ordered more than one system... Said they had a duplicate order and whether they should cancel? Told him that I had already recieved but would be happy to take at the same spec and price, yet I was a little concerned it may be some sort of scam when he asked for my credit details.. anyhow have since contacted Dell original No. 0870 907 3333 and they confirmed his details . I am now awaiting his call to proceed. Phew.. that was long winded.
  • Sounds cheeky this, but do you have to pay for the duplicate orders or do you think it shows that they've been payed for ? Naughty, naughty... very naughty... !!
  • well my pc which was due to arrive on monday arrived today. fortunately my mum in law arrived at the house as i was out. she couldnt open the front door as i had left the key in it on the inside. so she went round the back and told the delivery person this. when she came back round he told her he had left it in my shed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just taken it in from the shed and everything is ok...phew...nice and black.
as a side note. i never thought this would happen and so i binned the order number etc. i usually only use 1 credit card for internet ordrs and it has not appeared there....maybe it's on another card which i used.

    top marks to psybear

I was one of the people who ordered one of these PCs. I got a message from DELL to say that it will be here on 28th FEB.

I phoned them up to get the floppy drive and they wanted to charge me £35.

does anyone know how difficult it is to fit a standard drive.

    Thanks

If your good at metalwork its not too hard to fit one but they come with no carrier to mount one to so you will have to make something or buy one from elseware. Someone does a mounting kit on the net but I cant remember where.
Have a search round for Dell floppy mounting kit.
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)

Like Nickydoc I thought I was going to get off without paying for these! Unfortunately Dell billed my credit card two days after delivery.:(
As for floppy disks fitting a standard one is going to be difficult - there isn't a proper cage for this, and you really need the Dell optional cage to do this properly. If you really MUST have a floppy drive I would suggest you buy an external USB one, or look on Ebay and see if you can pick one of the Dell cages up cheaper.
On a different note I have now fitted my PCI graphics card (a PNY Verto FX5200 128MB £45 special from PCWorld online) and it takes my 3DMARK2001SE score up from 1950 to just short of 5000 - this means it will be fine for most normal games and possibly even Half-Life 2, although maybe on lower settings. It should be fine for games like Medal of Honor now too - just off to find out!:D So in total a great little system with Windows XP for less than £250 all in.
On another note Dell just emailed me to say my "extra" machine due for delivery by 25th has been dispatched today!

  • Received letter from Walsh Western on Wed saying that computer would be delivered Fri between 5:00pm & 9:00pm.
Guess what, waited in all evening but it didn't turn up.
Checked on-line tracking system and according to Walsh Western they tried to deliver at 6:00pm but there was no one in so they left a card.
    What a load of rubbish

Last time i bought a Dell... I took a day off, and waited all day, and it never came. Had the next day off anyway, and it never came.
THey phoned the 3rd day, and said they couldnt find it, but that they phoned the other days.. which was blatant lying...
phoned the couriers office to complain, and they refunded £40 back to me.
    Be nice

I wouldn't worry too much, Dell have obviously seen this for the marketing opportunity it is and committed themselves in the national press to fulfilling these orders, but it will take them some time to get through the list, some of you will remember the Woolworths thread and similar delays but so far as I know everyone got their gamecube in the end.

I didn't get my gamecube and I've still not heard anything since the first Dellemail. I did speak to the lovely Claire but as I haven't got my order number that wasn't much help. She did say that if i got an email I should eventually get a machine but she couldn't say when!
