That's what I thought! Strange that their website doesn't show this memory chip (or any memory chip for that matter) being available for the 3000 range. Still a great price though - less than £15 delivered. And my first order is already being prepared for shipping - estimated delivery date THURSDAY 24th! Amazing.

how can it be less then £15 mate, it shows £16.45 for me for the RAM.
if i had known then what i know now

Prob because he bought several and the postage is reduced if you order more so then if the total cost is divided by the number of sticks you end up with less cost per stick than buying just one.
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)
  • Just had a call from Dell asking if I still wanted to process the ordered I'd placed in January ( and received at the weekend ;) ).

I asked which order that was, as I'd placed a few recently, but they wouldn't let on any further info.

When I mentioned that I was still waiting for the order I'd placed for the Dimension 3000s *cough* ( I shall never go to heaven ) they asked if I wanted to process it ? Well how could I refuse ? !

LOL Guess my 'duplicate' order is on it's way !! :D

Hope the price is the same minds!!

If you order two of these the price charged was £29.38 incl VAT and delivery.

I reckon if you want this it's worth getting just one from Dell at £16.45 - I can't find any online supplier who will sell you a 256MB stick of PC2700 memory for this price delivered. Besides it's from a reputable supplier and guaranteed.
I also think it't the cheapest and easiest upgrade for the Dimension 3000s - if you only ordered 256Mb of memory in the original PC. With all the software installed and running (e.g. Windows XP, Internet Explorer and McAfee AntiVirus you start to go over 256MB of memory usage and the machine starts paging. And if you want to play any games on this machine a total of 512MB is well worth having - which is what I'm ordering it for.

My only concern (and I'll find out tomorrow if it works or not) is that the second memory chip won't be a matched pair for the one already in the machine, and therefore the dual channel memory will not work. Don't see why it won't, but there's only one way to find out.

As a matter of interest if you try buying a Dimension 3000 machine at the minute the bottom spec machine comes with 256MB of memory and the cost to upgrade this to 512MB is £94!

Please let us know if this definately compatible.
Has anyone already fitted one of these memory sticks to the 3000 in question? Is the Dell part number visible on the memory stick already fitted?

    TIA

I checked the memory in my existing Dimension - it has no Dell codes on it at all - it's a piece of standard Samsung PC2700 CL2.5 memory. I'm assuming that the piece I've ordered will be the same.
I will post a message tomorrow as soon as the new memory has been delivered.
    Cheers.
