Dell system for £185 incl. VAT

I called Dell this morning and queried why I hadn't recieved an order confirmation yet.
Without taking any details, the agent's first question was "is this for a Dimension 3000?". When I said yes she stated that there had been "terrible problems with the ordering system over the weekend". She went on to say that the system was applying components which were end of line and out of stock.
I was told that each order is being looked at separately to "check whether it is affected". This may take several more days and that I would be contacted if there was a problem. If there was then I would be offered an alternative system. If the order was fine then I would receive a confirmation email.
To double check I asked her to look up my order. I was told that it was on the system and that no notes had been attached to the order - implying either that the order was OK or more likely in my view that it hadn't been dealt with yet.
I qualify as a legitimate business user but I'm not holding out much hope that Dell will honour my order as placed.0 -

Well I ordered a similar system except it is the one with 512M or Ram and 80GB HDD and 17" TFT (the £327 one) - so base unit pretty much the same on Monday night and I got my order confirmation next day no mention of running out of parts.
Mine was Home and Home Office so their excuse sounds like B**l S**t to me - do you think Dell are trying to get out of supply he £185 system?0 -

Ordered one on Tuesday night, received confirmation e-mail yesterday and tracking states delivery should be on Saturday. According to http://www.hotukdeals.com/ deal has changed as free delivery deal has expired. However, there is now a £30 discount giving a total of £350.
I do not think that Dell would consider this deal less of a problem than the £186. I would tend to believe their reason given for delays experienced by some. My experience of ordering from Dell has been very positive.0 -
Well, I ordered one of the £185 ones last Saturday AM and heard nothing so I emailed them on Wednesday. Still having heard nothing, yesterday I phoned them and got the usual runaround. First person I spoke to went and checked and then said my order did not exist and I would have to re-order (which wasn't too heplful as the deal had long gone !?). He passed me to another dept. and the helpful guy later rang me back to confirm that my order had, in fact been received, and was being (slowly) processed. He even gave me an IR number which should have been given online when I placed the order but wasn't.
Later that day I received a reply to my original email stating that my order had been cancelled !
I rang them again and they said they'd get back to me yesterday - they didn't.
I have now sent another email asking why my order had been cancelled when I have previously been told it was being processed and, if in fact it has, to reinstate it forthwith.
My point is, can they unilaterally just cancel any order they don't fancy fulfilling even if the customer has an IR number ?
Dell would undoubtedly make more money if they just sorted out their totally chaotic admin.0 -
I’ve just looked at Dells website and the best offer I see at the moment is a system for £300.
Looking at the tech spec for this machine it is obvious that what you get for your money is in fact not a lot! If you understand the spec and know what you want, then go ahead if it meets your needs, but try https://www.lowestonweb.com (and probably many others) for some more usable hardware.0
