Scammed of £900?

I 'won' an auction for a mobile phone which was a present for my daughter and the seller had 100% positive feedback, of course I didnt get the phone and couldnt afford to buy her another. I did complain via paypal and got a partial refund but was so incensed that I also contacted the police local to the seller (I was lucky as I had his address as originally he wanted me to pay by cheque but I refused and said I was safer with paypal), they were fab. They went to see him, and I got back the balance of the money he owed me. Try the police, this is theft and whether its £900 or £9, theft is theft and all crime is insidious.Member since Sept 2003, been comping seriously since 2004 and so far have won.........
A book (which never arrived) a Rugby ball (mother of three girls) and a cheque for £50. In 2009 my (one and only) win An Avatar goody bag (thanks to weeowen67) since then nothing. Come on Comping Fairy surely I deserve a little luck?0 -

I wish I could track the guy down, he owns https://www.grahamsdvds.com , but a whois didn't give me much apart from his name which is apparantly Graham Crossley, but his email address is: rsmith2477@ntlworld.com if that helps..
Do you think anyone could help me track him down?
I called up PayPal, but they said they can't do anything as it was sent via email..
try 192.com you may have to pay to get the electoral role but it may be worth a try if you can get his address through ebay/paypalneed to have a lightbulb moment0 -
B4usearch.com is free and has electoral roll, so I can't see any point using 192.com instead.0

Ebay tend not to be very cooperative with outside agencies because they want to protect their brand name.
You are deluded if you think the police will drop everything to investigate this scammer.
i did not say that they would drop everything but as someone else posted theft is theft
a person is guilty of a theft if they dishonestly obtain property with the intention of permanently depriving shop/person/ some one of it
so in this case the have deprived the op of his money or they have obtained money under false pretencis
excuse spelling long nightT&C APPLY0 -
Gutted for the op, to loose any amount to a con artist is bad. understand why you did what you did a £100 is a lot of money, as my gran would say you learn from your experiences and i guess you have learned a very hard lesson with this, i feel you have a long and very difficult fight ahead to get this money back:mad:
As mentioned earlier DO contact the police, but before you do i suggest that you contact everyone that this guy has sold to and find out if any of them are in the same boat as you and by how many £££s
Then goto the police explain this to them and tell them there are x number of people like you in the same boat, ask the police if they wish all these people to contact them at the one station or if they goto the local stations will all this information be collated together so that the police are therefore forced into action due to the large sums of cash involved. Ten people like yourself £900 down is a lot of money gained by the conartist and iam sure this will make the police take action.
Perhaps arrange for yourself and other people caught out to contact papers etc?
Its the best i can think off for you, and wish you the best of luck. i know luck isnt what you want its the moneyCompo challange:Amount won £0 Need to win £2400 -
i agree with glen5213 and yes the police should get involved. i know that my local force has a detective purely assigned to ebay frauds/ thefts etc. and from what she tells me (shes a friend) there are many more in the country doing the same job as hers.Give blood - its free0

Ok guys - I got someone else to call, inquiring about his website, https://www.grahamsdvds.co.uk and whether it was for sale, and he said that he owned it but it wasn't for sale. This is definitely the guy, as on his PayPal it was registered under Grahams DVDs too...
So, I'm left with the guys phone number, and 3 possible names?0 -
Can the police trace people from their phone number?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I wouldn't trust either of these sites to give accurate/ up to date information. On 192.com I'm listed as being at my parents still and in my single name. I've been married for 5 years and lived here for 14 years so they are well behind the times. On b4usearch.com I don't even exist. Go figure
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Have you tried googling the telephone number you have, sometimes if it's hidden on the net somewhere it will bring up an address - hope you get it sorted out.0
