Thought peas, were super free foods judging by the fondness for mushy pea curry on this thread:eek:. Am I right or wrong?

I thought peas were only free on green and ee and have to be a B choice or synned on red??

Some peas are superspeed though, which is good. Blackberry the symbols are explained on page 7 of the food optomising book, not in much detail but at least its something. I find the use of the symbols in the book very confusing, the whole thing is not laid out well at all:(

hi all - am thinking of starting slimming world
have had a very stressful few months and have comfort eaten and put on about half a stone over my top comfortable weight
however if im going to do it i may as well go for a decent goal so 21lbs would be lovely

i did WW sucessfully for baby weight some years ago however last 3 to 4 years have been eating low carb - so protein and high good fats
really like and agree with the LC way of eating just on a vicious circle of craving high carb treats - pitta bread new potatoes pasta which sets me off on a road to destruction and guilt and self loathing

you really cant yo yo with LC as you get the worst of both worlds and weight piles on super quick !!!

so based on that - am i going to really struggle with SW ? remember ive been eating butter FF mayo olive oils double cream etc etc in lieu of carbs

any advice bullet points info or ideas all gratefully recieved - have read lots of this thread and the previous SW thread but worried im not going to get my head round it
what is a big no no and what is good ?

also without meaning to sound disrespectful - tho im aware its going to - some of your daily menus seem to include an awful lot of food ? can you really eat that much ? do you need to if your not hungry ?
for example on a LC day for me i would have 2 rashers bacon 1 egg 1 LC crispbread and butter
meat cheese salad and mayo for lunch and roast chicken green veg and LC gravy for dinner - may have a square of dark choc or a few strawberries and cream to snack on

eating the cereal bars and stuff doesnt really sit that well cos of the refined sugar and stuff - i dont get it ???

I'm no expert, but as one third of your plate is supposed to be superfree food (that is, fruit and most vegetables, but not parsnip, peas, beans, potatoes) you seem to be missing that. eg lunch you have no superfree except the yoghurt, so perhaps one of your potatoes could have been broccoli or mushrooms or salad. Even your "loads" of spaghetti could perhaps have been cut back and had some other vegetables with the tomatoes (courgettes, spinach, asparagus?) , though I acknowledge quorn is superfree. Just my thoughts ....

Actually neither yoghurts or Quorn are superfree - they're syn-free (well if you pick the right yogs) but not superfree.

You're right though about the lack of superfree fruit and veg in this menu.

joshtbh - as Blackberry-rum said, try putting volume in your meals using lots of veg, whether it's salad veg or cooked. Also, I see no HEAs or HEBs (except an Alpen Light which is only ½ HEB). Instead of filling up on yoghurts and bananas make sure you have the full quota of HEs and your syns to make sure that your diet is balanced.

The amount you eat (as long as it's free food) is not as important as the variety of foods you consume. I always say to members to try and 'eat a rainbow' of colours every day, which hopefully consists of lots of brightly coloured veggies.

If you're new to food optimising you'll lose weight well even though you're eating a lot - many members push the boundaries at the beginning, it usually eases off as time goes by.

Lol Clarie that's exactly what I did - and I can't find anything on the site that states 1/3 sf on green/red days (thank god!!) Plus the suggested menu clearly doesn't include sf foods with all meals :)

As you say, it's not in the rules, but it IS a very good way to make sure that you make healthy eating a lifestyle change. If every meal contains lots of fruit and/or veg, the chances of your weight going back on in the future is slim (if you'll pardon the pun, lol)/

Im not being funny or anything but if you really can eat as many off these free foods as you want how will you lose weight?

Have faith...try it and see! I promise it works as many, many people on here and other forums will testify :)

Thanks MRSM!!! These were from my local takeaway so not sure of the brand.. but thanks to your list i have just found the discs that the takeaways use :D

EDIT - I have just run the nutritional info on the calculator and 20g = 7 syns if deep fried in oil. I think its safe to say to allow 7 syns!! As i dont know what 20g looks like *goes off to weigh the remainder*
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

Your normal meal plan (in red above) would be acceptable on SW except that you would need to syn the butter and cream. Using your syns that way is fine, but would mean there would't be any/many left for cereal bars and stuff - which would obviously suit you.

The plans are very flexible but great emphasis is put on healthy, fresh foods, cooked from scratch and syns are there to be 'spent' on whatever it is that makes you feel that you're not being deprived....be it cream or sugar-filled snacks.

Look on the website www.slimming-world.com for a 7 day menu plan and you will see that you don't have to eat anything in particular, but equally nothing is banned.

The people who you feel 'eat too much' may have a larger appetite for things like jacket potatoes (which are very healthy, full of fibre and satisfy the appetite) whereas they may hate butter and cream (the foods you like).

We, on SW, are encouraged to eat until we're full. There will always be people who don't recognise the feeling of fullness at first, but eventually, with proper, healthy food in abundance, they begin to eat less, often without actually realising it.

    Hope this helps

Edited to add: full fat mayo, butter, cream, oils etc are doing your arteries no good at all........I can never understand the horror that some people have at eating lots of carbs. I love my carbs :(
