I forgot to buy quark for my lasagne topping so may have to use some milk and thicken it with cornflour and flavour with mustard powder and veg stock powder. Unless anyone has any other ideas?

I blend some FF cottage cheese, grate a little pepper in it and use it as an alternative to white sauce in lasagne. I'd also use a HEA for some grated mozzarella on the top.

Someone recently posted about breakfast on the go and I think I am going to struggle with this, so will be trying to think up some answers. At least over the weekend there are lots of breakfast choices.

I've never done this before and finding the rules quite complicated so far.

How about a cereal bar or Hi-Fi bar (the kellogs fibre plus bars are lovely and my favourite HEB choice) I tend to have that and a piece of fruit for breakfast when i'm on the go or just don't fancy cereal, toast etc.

  • Hi everyone, I was just wondering if someone could give me some info on SW as I'm interested in joining up!
I did WW for a few months a couple of years ago and lost a bit of weight but ended up going to university and putting loads more weight on. I now have about 5 stone to lose :(
How different is SW to WW? Would you reccommend it over WW and how does it work?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help :)

    Hi all

I've been reading this thread with interest, having had my second child 6 weeks ago I'm keen to lose around 3 stone I've put on over the last few years. And Slimming World EE seems ideal for me so I'm trying to use up a lot of not so healthy foods (pizza etc) and begin SW on Monday.

Could anyone help with a couple of questions please?

    1. If I were to use HEB of 1 x weetabix and 3 Ryvita crackerbreads can I split HEA to 1 or 2 mini babybel lights and a splash of milk for my weetabix?

    2. What on earth does Quark taste like?

    Thank you
    C x

I am sure consultant will be here soon to confirm/refute but I am of the understanding that we are not really allowed to split our HE's in that way. You are allowed to have up to 15 syns a day so perhaps easier just to syn that splash of milk?

As for quark - not really much of a taste sensation to be honest (imagine a smooth cottage cheese that is thicker and no lumps in but not quite so good tasting:D), however the beauty of quark is that it takes on the flavour of food it is mixed with. So if you mix it with a tablespoon or two of mayo that little pot of quark will take on the taste of the mayo (takes overnight for this to happen). I personally mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter and a teaspoon of honey which produces me enough spread to put on my breakfast ryvitta's or scanbrans for almost a week for almost no syns at all!

    Marion:)

I'm not sure of the official SW position but I often do this with my HE's. I may have one weetabix with 175ml skimmed milk for breakfast (along with chopped banana), and then an alpen light bar later with the other 175ml milk used to make up a small hot chocolate. I've also for example had 175ml sk milk for breakfast, and then 2 triangles of diarylea light later in the day and counted it all as 1 HEA. It works for me:)

How did they turn out that made them so awful? How did you cook them?

I have done both before several times and imo either plan will work successfully for you as long as you have the motivation to stick with it and approach it in the right frame of mind. People will always recommend the plan they have had the most personal success with, but that may not necessarily be right for you. SW is similar to the WW core plan, if you've ever tried it, and this thread may be useful to you in getting your head round what SW is all about. Have a read and think about which plan suits you and your lifestyle, and if you decide on SW make sure you come back and join in with us on here:) Good luck :-)

IMO there's no contest. I have done both (successfully got to target with both SW and WW) but find WW far to restrictive to live with for ever. Have a look on the website www.slimming-world.com where you will find a 7 day menu which you can follow and see what you think to it.

As Marion says, you're not supposed to split your HEs as they are worked out to give you all the nutrition you need over the day. A 'splash' of milk is very few syns (2 tbspns = ½ syn semi skim) so I would be inclined to syn it and have the full quota of cheese instead.

Marion - that peanut butter/quark spread sounds delicious, thank you, I'll try that :p

Evening all -hope everyone has had a good day

and Karen23 -hope your dad is still in good spirits and recovering from his Chemo ... its bl**dy awful to watch isn't it -I watched my sister go through it and you feel so flippin useless. Still Im sure your dad is just grateful you are there ;)

I had to pop on to say NOMNOMNOM -we have just had the beef rogan josh I made from the slimming world book yesterday and it was a 2 thumbs up :T-and I don't like curry or chilies normally  . There is still a portion of it left and some rice with frozen peas and sweetcorn in it that hubby has earmarked for "nuking" for his supper :D

I have been that impressed with the SW recipes that I have tried this week that I have ordered the others :rotfl:.... I think that the problem I had with the WW recipe books was that I considered a lot of the recipes to high in points so I wouldn't do them :o ..these SW ones are great...
