    evening all!

    Food today has been green

B - 28g Fruit and Fibre (heb1) with milk (hea1) cup of tea

S - 2 morning coffee biscuits (2), 1x Cheestring (i was amazed when i discovered the light cheestrings were a healthy extra!!!!! - part of hea2)

L - SW chips with 2tbsp of l/f onion and garlic dip (2), Fibre plus bar (heb2), 4x mikado sticks (2)

D - 2 quorn burgers (1) with sliced gherkins on top served with cheese, ham and leek pasta n sauce (1)

I still haven't eaten my second cheestring, as i have counted it in my healthy extra's today would it be ok to have it tomorrow and count it as free?

    Total syns today 8

i have gotten into some bad habits over the last week or so, from today i have started keeping a food diary on paper as well as on here - esp as i have a habit of snacking in the evening and sometimes not editing my post to include the extra syns. I've counted them in my head that day but as they are not written down - i forget and then wonder why i havent lost as much etc. .
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

    new beginnings...... new successes..

    Hi all,

I have been doing SW for a while on and off, but subscribing to this thread will maybe give me the extra support I need as my weight is yo yoing to and fro. I had the cold a couple of weeks ago and ate lots of packets of jackemans cough sweets. So, I am way back up to 12 stone again, I had been down at 11st 6. So, trying to get back on track again. I'm away with work for the next couple of days, so I'll report in when I'm back on Wednesday, not sure if the hotel will have wi fi.

Thanks to c l a i r e for putting the blog in with all the recipies, it is great and I'll be trying some of them at the weekend.

I'll start proper on Thursday after my WI.

    Speak soon. x

Welcome to the thread Lynne:) I have found that blog really great for different meal ideas, the person doing it also posts over on the minimins site so I tend to stalk their recipes there as well:rotfl:

If anyone's like me and loves seeing piccys of meals for inspiration you might like this thread here as well.

ETA: congrats to all the losers today :T

    Hi Everyone

Im hoping someone can give me some advice.....
Ive been a weghtwatcher previously so have never had any experience of slimming world. A friend of mine has lost loads on it and it looks great, but i dont seem to be able to get my head round it as im so used to counting points!!

So, i just wondered if someone could maybe dumb it down for me a little!! Ive read the slimming world threads but theres so much info on there that a lot of it is just not going in.

Im feeling a right old lump at the min and i definately need to do something about my weight now as im so fed up. I think its the SYNS thats confusing me the most - im thinking of going to a meeting tomorrow to see how i get on there and listen to what everyone has to say.

How do i work out the SYN value of foods though? Do SW give you books like WW do?
How easy is it to eat out on SW?

The main thing im worried about is how i might have to change my diet - at the min i tend to snack A LOT on fruit and veg throughout the day as i work away a lot so its an easy way to have food on the road. Lunch usually consists of a sandwich and if im working away then its restaurant food for tea :( Can anyone give me some help with the best things to choose on that?

Any help anyone can give me would be gratefully appreciated :) xx

Snacking on fruit and veg is perfect, so no change there :) A sandwich is perfectly possible, but I don't find them filling enough. You could always make a pasta salad in a box to take for lunch (pasta, chopped peppers, chopped cucumber, tuna, mayo etc) or a rice salad using flavoured savoury rice with all manner of chopped bits in it. The choice is yours and choice is what it's all about.

If you joined a group (£9.95 on the first week, £4.95 thereafter) you would be given all the books you need plus an explanation of how it all works.

It is possible to work out the syns for some foods by counting 1 syn per 20 calories.......this is not foolproof, but can work in an emergency if you're desperate to have something and don't know the syns.

It's very easy to eat out on SW especially if you follow the Extra Easy plan. I eat out regularly and usually have something like a gammon steak with jacket potato and salad - this would all be counted as free foods so no worrying about weighing or measuring any of it. If you wanted butter in the jp or mayo on the salad, this is where you could count the syns. Personally I prefer to do without these and have a pud, but that's just me, I lurve my puds :D

If you have a big appetite, you will find SW so much easier than WW because you can eat enough to fill you every day - I used to always be hungry when I did WW - I lost the weight but couldn't keep it off because I started to eat more when I got to target.

Have a look on the SW website www.slimming-world.com where you will find a 7 day menu plan which you can follow to get a feel for it. You'll love it I promise :)

Good Morning lisalow and welcome to our group! I really would try and go to a group if at all possible. The first time you go they will give you all the books you need, will sit you down and go through the whole eating plan with you and answer all your questions plus will give you the password to their website which will give you even more information on the plan plus gives you access to all the syn values of different foods. There is even an article on eating out and lists the different types of restaurant and the best type of things to order.
You don't need to attend again if you choose not too, although again I think that those who attend (and stay for the meeting) tend to lose weight at a better and more consistent rate.

Syns are the bane of my life, when I know theres a mad day coming up I have a fight with my head as it wants to save all the syns for that mad day. I KNOW that I'm not supposed to do it but can't help myself. Take this Friday, I am out bowling and a scampy/chip meal is included. I know this will be high in syns so want to save as many syns as possible to cover it. I don't do this every week so wouls the odd time really be bad? I have been having trouble consuming the right amount of syns in a normal week as it is, am I going about it the wrong way? Probably :o

Having a special occasion like the one you describe is the perfect time to have flexible syns. With this you decide before the event how many syns you expect to consume. Be generous and make sure you include drinks as well as food. If you think say 50 syns should cover it (or 70, 80 100, it's up to you) keep counting while you're out and make sure you stop when you get to the total you've allocated. This ensures that when you leap out of bed the next day (or struggle out, which ever description fits best, lol) you will feel no guilt at having 'blown it' and can get straight back on track, having your normal 5-15 syns a day. It will slow your loss down for the week, but the idea is that you were in control throughout the occasion.

MRSMCAWBER - you hit the nail on the head by saying you want to stop the 'feast and famine' attitude to food. When we're overweight, this attitude to food gets out of kilter and to become effortlessly slim that has to be sorted out.

Learning to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full sounds easy but it's something really basic that a lot of us struggle with. Using some syns every day, not necessarily as 'treats' but to make meals more interesting is important if you're going to learn to 'eat to live' rather than 'live to eat' if you see what I mean.

Right, getting off my soap box now, sorry about all that :o

I've had a good day today and made up a new recipe for tea.

Does anyone know the syns for a weightwatchers mini chocolate stick? They're like mini magnums. I use the syn calculator which came up with 6.5 syns. Seems a bit high seeing as you can have a full fat mini magnum for 8 syns.

Hi, did yo find out the syns of these yet? I know that 1 WW point is about 3 1/2 syns if that helps you work it out.
I like the WW carrot cake slices as a sweet treat, they are 1 point (3 1/2 ) syns per slice.hth

    Morning all

You are spot on -my mum has often said "everyone should eat to live not live to eat" -but all our family are foodies :p...
I can lose weight no problem -but I always go at it like a loony then burn out and give up and plonk it all back on again + VAT :o...this time Im trying to accept that "slow n steady" is the way to go. Normally if I had only lost 3.5lb on my first week I would have been gutted -but this time I have been happy with it as I haven't made weight loss my only focus.

Anyway -I had a good look through my new recipe books-they are great -in particular the 100 sauces looks great .. I am doing tonights meal from 100 original meals -the sauce is under way at the moment :T

So todays EE meal looks like this:-
    • 250ml semi skimmed (A)
    • apple
    • Huge salad
    • ham
    • 2 small steamed potatoes
    • 1tbs yogurt dressing
    • Mexican chili chicken
    • rice
    • 1/2tsp olive oil (1syn)
    • onions
    • peppers
    • mushrooms
    • peas
    • sweetcorn
    • 1 egg (between us)
Im doing egg fried rice with lots of veggies in so I can use less rice ;)

Snackies will be fruit and a yummy yogurt (8syns)
Hope everyone has a great day

    Hi guys

havent been around for a while, same with SW weigh in ive missed 4 weeks but stuck to diet still
first week was ill, second son had theory test and had to take him, then my b/f dragged me off to cornwall for two weeks at a minutes notice

i done loads of hill walking though they felt like mountains lol
hadnt realised how unfit id gotten well i did u just tend to go into denial hmm

i lost 3 1/2 llb over the two weeks holiday so made a point of buying a twist stepper off ebay so i can keep working on my already severly sore and aching leg and butt muscles lol

but my weights been all over this week since doing that and other toning excercises

i dropped a pound then day after went back up that pound
day after that i dropped 3 llb, then this morning im back up 2 llb
so i havent a clue what loss im having or weight i am now its fluctuating up and down daily by considerable amounts

on this mornings weight which is 2 llb more than yesterday would mean ive lost 11 lb in total in 10 weeks and have to say it i dont feel like im even dieting

i know its slow loss but when u look back on events i could have been heavier or not lost anything at all so rather than looking how far i have to go as i need to lose 5 and half stone, i feel more motivated looking how far ive come

is that normal though the weight fluctations?

oh and MRSMCAWBER i was exactly same on WW i would over eat and then starve myself for a couple of days before WI, no wonder i never lost any weight or stayed same lol
