Potato salad, pasta salad, coleslaw etc are lovely when they're home made and can be very low syn if you use the extra light mayo.

I use a mandolin slicer for the coleslaw and can very quickly make a huge mixing bowl full from one small white cabbage, one large carrot and an onion so it's cheap as well as being much nicer than shop bought.

Potato salad is also cheap and easy, dice a large potato (or use baby new ones). When cooked, chop a couple of spring onions into the potato - using all the green part too. Mix with extra light mayo or a mixture with the mayo and syn-free fromage frais - this makes it virtually syn-free if sharing with other people.

Ditto with pasta salad - cheaper and nicer when home made and the syn values can be kept to an absolute minimum.

Have you tried the seeded Ryvitas? There's one with pumpkin seeds and it's truely delicious - absolutely no bleurgh factor :)

I now make my potato salad with half LF mayo and half 0% Greek yogurt and some spring onions. I now think it is nicer than when it's made just with mayo.

I picked up a Sainsbury's Mag today and there is a recipe in there for a fruity couscous breakfast that I'm going to try. I'll report back on what it is like (and give the SW friendly version of the recipe if it's good).

got-it-spend-it, I now make my potato salad the same way as you and I too find it nicer now.. I think my tastes are changing.

Takeiteasy - those couscous frittas sound intriguing, I'll give them a go ... my list of new recipes is getting longer... I really must put some effort in and try them next month... the food budget is currently at 2.00 left until the end of the month LOL... but there is plenty in the house and only a few days to go.

I managed to be better than I usually am at the pub last night whilst watching the football and drank water with just a couple of halves... WI on Thurs and I am going to be extra good until then. OH is away until Thurs night so I have no-one to lead me into temptation.

I've not decided on todays meals so I'll cruise here for inspiration and post later.

Good luck for today everyone xx

I would have loved to have made my own pasta salad and potato salad but there wasn't enough time. the bought pasta salad was pretty dry and mostly veg, but I synned myself for the oil in the ingrediets list.

I got the multigrain ryvita with sesame seeds - hopefully it'll be yummier than i remember ryvita being in the past!! the pumpkin seed on looked good but was a bit more £ and I am seriously low on money at the mo.

    Today I'm having
Breakfast - 28g Raisin wheats and 1/2 HeA milk (some in tea)
snack - 2 Ryvita (1 to complete HeB and 1 for 1.5 syns) and 2 laughing cow light triangles (other 1/2 of HeA)
Lunch- Tuna salad with cucumber, carrot, tomato and spring onion.
Snack - go ahead strawberry bake (6 syns)
Also lots of fresh fruit - cherries, apples and banana
Dinner - chicken curry using the SW recipe (free) with some extra veg shoved in and a tbsp mango chutney on the side (2 syns)
    Dessert - toffee Muller light

    total syns: 9.5

Lovely day yesterday, hope you're all just as annoyed as I am about having to get back to work today!!! :p

    B.

PS - I bought this new type of oat bake from Go Ahead before I started SW - http://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Go-Ahead-Mixed-Berry-Oat-Square/55843011
Each one is about 45g - please could someone look up the syns for me (I am expecting it to be high having learnt that go ahead and ww foods are packed with sugar!) thanks :)

I found a no added sugar lime cordial in tescos - tastes the same! I have always bought Roses as I bought a different on once that was horrible, but i guess they've made improvements since then. Lovely with Soda water :)

  • Right back on plan after a bad weekend as it was my birthday :j

However weigh in this morning and I'm down just over a lb :T

I'm now at the stage where i'm feeling like I want to be healthy so I'm having really good meals and stivking to plan. The only trouble is that my mum bought me a tub of rose turkish delight and my boyfriends parents bought me a MASSIVE box of thorntons chocolates which somehow got opened so resisting them could be tricky. But if I limit myself to one of each each day as my syns that should be ok :p

So today is shaping up like this on EE:

    HEA: 250 ml ss milk
    HEB: Fibre plus bar

    Breakfast: Fibre plus bar
Lunch: Tuna and sweetcorn pasta with extra light salad cream and salad
    Dinner: Bacon and mushroom omlette

Hope you all have a lovely week
