    Hi all

Not good today - weigh in and have put on a lb!!!

I am really struggling to lose weight. I am 28, 5'3" and weigh 10st 7lb. I want to get to around 9st. I am following the slimming world eating plan and go to the gym 5 times a week. At the gym I do 30mins cardio on the treadmill (jogging for 23 mins the rest a fast walk) following by about 40 mins of free weights and ab work. However, I am not losing weight indeed this week I put on a lb. I really need some help as despite all my hard work at the gym it doesn't seem to be working.

I have been super good all week re. SW

    Anyone got any ideas??

    Karen xx

Are you having enough syns? I was a bit stuck like you and I was having 35 (or less!) syns over a week (5 or less per day) and my consultant said to try upping my syns a little to 10 per day, which I have... and lost 7Ib over 3 weeks. As an extra bonus I'm enjoying each day a little more having a few more treats :D

Also, I've been trying to have at least 5 speed foods or superspeed per day, and at least one at each meal.

Good luck.... it will show on the scales eventually! :)

Hi Jadey, it's not a dish I eat, but if you google it you will find loads of recipes and all you have to remember is (1) use extra extra extra lean mince, (2) where the recipe says "fry in oil" - don't and (3) if it asks for tomato paste you need to syn it, it's not much. That probably doesn't sound very helpful but that's the main way to make regular recipes into slimming-world-friendly recipes. Even better (imo) would be to use quorn mince instead of extra lean beef mince, but that's up to you.

In fact you could google "slimming world" "spaghetti bolognaise" and I'm sure you will find any number of good recipes.
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

To be extra mean... hummous isn't a healthy extra on EE anyway :o
    It's on a green day

hummous will be about 2.5 syns for 14g unless it was reduced fat then it'll be about 1.5 syns.

Why not buy the SW magazine today and have a read of that for info and recipes? And it'll have another 7 day menu in it too.... :)
Kellogg's Raisin Wheats are a healthy extra -you are allowed 28g but to make it a heb you have to have 1 Ryvita Multigrain with it
Sorry to repeat myself but again this would work better as a green day rather than an EE one. I just think that unless you are having meat there is no reason to have an extra easy day as you are essentially just depriving yourself of an extra HEA and HEB choice. Also by changing to green the houmous can count as a HEB choice which it can't on red and EE.

You can split your HE's up but this can only be done where the HE is made up of one choice only. So it doesn't work with the raisin wheats because to count it as a HEB choice you have a ryvita multigrain with it. It would for example work with eg special k sustain (ie 28g=a HEB choice so you could have 14g and 14g of houmous and count both as a HEB choice if you wanted). If you like houmous btw you may want to buy some low fat one as you can have a larger 57g portion of that as HEB on a green day.

I know it seems very confusing but really the longer you follow the plan the more you get your head around it.

Hello! thanks for the feedback - don't feel bad about criticising my ideas I am a total newbie working out of a book from 2005!
I will definately buy the mag this week to get some more info.

Unfortunately I dont have much money and we just did our big shop - I dont have any ryvita I only have oatcakes and I only have alpen and raisin wheats, both or which require ryvita with them according to my book. Not really sure what to do to sort this out.

Claire you are right about the Green day - I was going to have chicken with dinner but forgot to get it out of the freezer last night, so I added the halloumi to make up for that, flavour-wise.

So basically I have had a green day without meaning too! So I need to have another HeA (will just have half a glass of milk) but the hummous should count as a HeB so I think it works out ok...

Got hungry when I was out - had plain cous cous with spicy beans and veg off a market stall - have synned myself for the oil in the spicy sauce to be on the safe side, I only had a tbsp or so.

I also had a mini milk, which i think it 2 syns. YUM!

I am confused as to why hummous is HeB on Green but not on EE, I think I need some more info on what counts as Heb and HeAs on EE days (might do some googling / check minimins)

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to plan tomorrow now and post it soon. Alll advice welcome as usual! Thanks so much.

PS - I am a total bookworm too!! I'm reading some chic lit nonsense at the mo now, something about the sunny weather makes me want to read girly rubbish rather than anything heavygoing!

Do they really speed up weight loss?
    Thanks:o

Happen to have my book by me...

Pretty much all fruit is either a speed or super speed food except:
    Amla
    Bananas
    Blueberries
    Custard Apple
    grapes
    jambu fruit
    jujube
    lychees
    mammie apple
    mango
    mangosteen
    watermelon
    persimmon
    physalis
    pomegranates
    Rambutan
    Sapodilla

Although most of them I've never even heard of never mind eaten so not too worried about them not being speed foods! :rotfl:

And most vegetables are speed and super speed foods too except:
    Artichokes
    Brussel sprouts
    Garlic
    waterchestnuts

So if you fill up on lots of super free speed and superfree food you will loose weight a little more quickly as they are all low in calories while being filling so you can't eat much of them before you feel full...

eg eating 2 apples would probably make you feel quite full- roughly 100 calories in 2 apples...
1 banana (not a speed food) is approx 100 cal (depending on size) and won't fill you as much as 2 apples...
100 calories of chocolate...(approx 5 syns) won't stop you feeling hungry at all.

    HTH
    :)

I finely chop an onion and a clove of garlic and brown it. Then put the mince in the same pan til it's done. Add two beef oxo cubes and stir. Then add a packet of passata. Add a tbsp of paprika powder and some blackpepper and cook for 20min. If it gets to thick I add a little water after half the time.
