Hello all, I am back with a confession/apology. Back there ^^^ somewhere I said I would never eat Quark because it was a horrible name. there was a bit of encouragement from some of you, and I saw some in Sainos and thought "Here goes". Having also recently bought the 100 Sauces book I thumbed through it looking for an onion sauce recipe to go with the slow cooked lamb I am making for lunches this week. Couldn't find one. So I improvised with Quark and wrote down what I did - it's luvverly! I've called it Cheesy Onion sauce because the Quark does give it a bit of an edge. This is it (please don't think me forward posting it before anyone begs me to
)
1 cup of Stock (use lamb stock, chicken stock or stock cube stock)
1 onion sliced
Quarter teaspoon of nutmeg
Half teaspoon of mustard powder
Half teaspoon of canderel
2 tablespoons quark
Cover the sliced onion, mustard powder, nutmeg and canderel with the stock, bring to boil and simmer for 5 - 8 minutes or until the onion is softened and the stock reduced. Add a little more stock if necessary but there should be little left at the end of this stage.
Stir in the quark and add seasoning to taste.
Warm through for a couple of minutes, it should be slightly runny not solid.
For a more oniony flavour grate some raw onion into the sauce when it has cooked.
PS I made mine in the microwave so the timings are for that.:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

Another panic moment here, lol, sorry!
Just been reading a thread on Minimins that seems to say that we SHOULDNT be eating anything but Superfree foods in between meals and that also you HAVE to have 1/3 Superfree with all meals for EE to work - eek! I dont think I have followed that part of it, and although I havent had much apart from fruit/veg/mullers by way of in between meal snacks, I am a bit worried I might have had something I shouldnt have done there as well....am I reading it right or wrong?? Someone please help, Im really starting to think I may be doing this wrong!!!!
ThanksWealth can be measured in many ways...not all of them by pence and pounds.;) :happylove0 -

As for just eating superfree between meals I honestly cannot say I do that, and my weight loss equals one pound per week on average. I do eat fruit between meals, but also sometimes I have my ryvita minis (HEB) or a square of bournville chocolate as a syn, etc. You'd probably lose more and faster if you only ate superfree between meals, but you might also lose heart so there'd be no point in putting yourself through it. Just my thoughts.:):jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

Thanks for that blackberry-rum!
I see what you are saying about eating your HEb's and Syns etc in between meals, but what I really want to know is if things that are free at meal times on red/green are free in between if you see what I mean - ie, if I eat a slice of ham in the middle of the afternoon, not as part of a meal, do I syn it or is it free?? I was lead to believe that I could eat any of the free foods at any time - although I havent done it much, I am just wondering if I have got that totally wrong and should be eating just Superfree in between or stuff that is counted as Syns and not other "free" stuff from the red/green plan - does that make sense at all??Wealth can be measured in many ways...not all of them by pence and pounds.;) :happylove0 -
Yellowlabel: I've just checked the book and it definitely says on page 9:
"...plus all the fabulous free foods you can enjoy any time to satisfy your appetite, also with no limits. They include lean meat and poultry, fish and seafood, potatoes, pulses and starchy vegetables, rice pasta and grains, eggs, fat free dairy products, vegetable proteins eg quorn." On the next page is the instruction to "fill 1/3 of your plate with superfree food - and make them your first choice between meals." But it does not say ONLY eat superfree between meals.:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

I am confused now - didn't Consultant say this was all part of the "misuse of free food" thing, and that head office instructed them to go for fruit veg etc between meals first? And that green and red free foods - such as pasta and meat etc , should now only be eaten as part of a balanced meal with a third as superfree?
I know as I asked about having roasted chickpeas as a snack, and she confirmed this (along with couscous cake, and 8egg recipe cakes etc) were misuse of the free food? And she explained how I should syn the roasted chickpeas?
Sorry I don't think I am explaining myself terribly wellI can hear my bath running and am concentrating on that :rotfl:
it is confusing and open to interpretation - that I agree with . I can look back and find what I am referencing to if you would like me too - as I'm inarticulate today
Here is the most recent mention I could find, but there is a more detailed explanation going pages back - here is one mention in the first paragraph
Sorry if I cause confusionI am still unsure as when i did SW yonks ago, i was stuffing my face with green/red food inbetween meals and it still worked (but I can see what they mean by it all)
More misuse mention - I know people were divided on what their thoughts were though.
ARG MY BATH!:rotfl:A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I have just checked the Bodyoptimise site and it clearly states that you CAN have any free foods at any time, but it does advise making superfree foods your first choice between meals. I think that they key to doing extra easy well is portion control. I know that they say no measuring no weighing etc but they do now say to only eat until you are comfortably full which is not the same as having as much as you want. I am terrible for portion control and if I'm honest it does put me off EE a bit. I could happily eat mountains of boiled pasta and meat in one sitting and I know that if I do do that I would not lose weight. I think that the quickest way to lose is to do red days but that's just my opinion. I think it is also VERY easy to overeat syns- I often forget to include things like a bit of tomato ketchup or salad cream which I think you need to make some meals palatable given that you are not having any fat and that is sometimes loads of syns! Oh well! now I've depressed myself!Jane

As I said, it does say in the book to make superfree snacks your first choice, but it also says free foods can be eaten at any time. So if you are yearning for a slice of ham (or more likely for me some prawns!) rather than an apple, go for it. Just try to eat plenty of superfree. Personally, I love the crunchy peppery stalks on cauliflower and broccoli and eat that raw whenever I can get hold of it.:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j
