    Hallo

Just to say when I installed Office Professional yesterday on daughter's laptop and my pc, I was given the option to replace so this is what I did. It all seemed to go very smoothly and everything loaded. Just need to double check that the trial office student version on the laptop has actually gone! (re Bugeyed's comments) and double check that the office 2003 has gone from the pc.

That will be fine. The upgrade will have replaced the trial and as software4students has simplified the upgrade route as previous post, it will be easy to complete the upgrade process when it becomes available

Here is a very useful link for those who already owned Office 2007 but have bought a new copy to take advantage of the free upgrade.
This is for those like myself who already have the same version installed but was bought before the offer. If you are putting a different version on (such as moving from home and student to pro or ultimate) then as before - do an upgrade
It explains how to change the product key WITHOUT uninstalling office.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Note If you try to open any Office programs after you complete the steps, you receive a message that prompts you for a valid product key. Make sure that you have a valid product key before you start these steps.
    1. Close all Office programs.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate and then click the following subkey, depending on your version of Windows and of Office:

      32-bit versions 2007 Office system
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

      Office 2003
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration

      Office XP
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration
      64-bit versions2007 Office system
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

      Office 2003
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration

      Office XP
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration
    4. Export the Registration subkey.

You can make a backup of the values under the Registration subkey if the new product key does not work. To do this, follow these steps:
      1. Right-click the Registration subkey, and then click Export.
      2. In the Save in list, select a location to save the registration entries.
      3. In the File name box, type a name for the .reg file that you want to export, and then click Save.

Note In steps 4a through 4c, you created a backup of the Registration subkey. You can restore the Registry settings of the Registration subkey by double-clicking the .reg file that you saved in step 4c. The contents of the .reg file are automatically exported to the Registry.
    5. Under the Registration subkey, there may be several Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) that contain a combination of alphanumeric characters. Each GUID is specific to a program that is installed on your computer.

Click a GUID. Then, view the version of Office that is listed in the right pane for the Productname registry entry. After you find the GUID that contains the version of your Office program, follow these steps:
      1. Right-click the DigitalProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes.
      2. Right-click the ProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes.

For more information about how to identify the correct GUID for the version of the Office suite or program that you have installed on your computer, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 928516 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928516/ ) Description of the numbering scheme for product code GUIDs in 2007 Office suites and programs
832672 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832672/ ) Description of numbering scheme for product code GUIDs in Office 2003
302663 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302663/ ) Description of the numbering scheme for product code GUIDs for Office XP programs
    6. Close Registry Editor.
    7. Open an Office program, such as Microsoft Word. When you receive a message that prompts you for the product key, type the correct product key, and then click OK.

Are there any deals for UK teachers buying Office? I don't know why NHS workers should get it for £8 and not teachers??

I don't know why you think teachers should get it and begrudge NHS workers!! Are you saying teachers are more important than the NHS?

    My question would have been:

"Does anyone know if teachers qualify for the £8 MS Office deal"

See? I asked your question, but didn't offend the entire NHS!!

The NHS probably just negotiated a licensing deal and/or subsidized the software for staff, that has nothing to do with teachers and schools who would have to have some representative body work out their own deal. You should be able to save a few more pounds using The Ultimate Steal, though (if you missed those links earlier on). It's 38.95. The deal is open to staff as well as students, but it's down to what kind of email addy you have. Here's who's eligible:

Individual must possess a valid e-mail address at a UK educational institution which contains the domain suffix 'ac.uk', 'ac.im', 'ac.gg', 'ac.je' or 'open.ac.uk'.
If the domain suffix is 'open.ac.uk' then staff/students do not need to meet the minimum contact and/or working/teaching time requirements outlined in point 2 below.

    AND

bullet2.png If you are a student, you must be enrolled in an education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man. If a Higher Education student, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate level course. If a Further Education student, you must have at least 15 hours of scheduled contact time per week for your course.

If you are a member of staff, you must be employed (at least 8 hours or 4 teaching hours/week) at an education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man.

I'm saying teachers are equally important. There was no begrudging implied or otherwise. I'm more than happy for NHS employees to receive this offer.
Could you point out the offensive part of my question please?

Before this broils into a full scale arguement I suggest that teachers visit http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/academic/default.aspx

Click the 1st link in getting started (are you already registered) then click school search on the next page. If you find your school is registered for MSDN then you should check with your IT department to get your email address registered (basically you will need to link your email address with windows live and your IT department will log into the msdn site and add you - they'll explain it all)

If your school isn't registered then I suggest you ask them why not !!

    Good luck

    Sorry 'thread police'.

There are no real time limited with regards to BETA versions, only to the extent that you need to download / test the software before the official release. I've had BETA versions from two years ago which are still fully functional therefore the answer to your time limit is 'there is no answer' otherwise I would advise accordingly.

    As you put it
You haven't bothered to read the thread or you would have seen it is already in there

And you really ought to add it's time limited.
Please take the time to read threads in future
